Benz drops V8 diesels... No chance of 420 GL now.

"...kommen künftig doppelt aufgeladene 2,2-Liter-Vierzylinder zum Einsatz. Den Anfang macht nächstes Jahr der 204 PS und 480 Nm starke C 250 CDI.."
Sounds like a lot of fun! but I don't see it pushing a GL around even with the doppelt aufgeladene...

Here is a free translation:
To consumption and thus carbon dioxide emissions to reduce both producers want to Six-cylinder drives change. The engines are spread over a smaller engine capacity, but with highly charge in order to bring similar benefits. "We have opted for a six-cylinder diesel with twin-turbo system. This engine has a higher power range than a V8 and offers more efficiencies," confirmed BMW chief Norbert Reithofer to the magazine. The current engines were not taken from the program, but run with the models, so Reithofer. "At our current offer is changed this first nothing, but a successor aggregate I think unlikely." At Mercedes, not only by eight-six-cylinder diesel engines. Instead of the three-litre V6 CDI will become doubly charged 2.2-liter four-cylinder is used. I'll begin next year of 204 hp and 480 Nm strong C 250 CDI.
Also I see that Mercedes is also looking to replace the V6 3.0 CDI engine in some applications with a twin turbo 2.2 liter 4 cylinder which has 204 HP and 354 Lb-Ft of torque... They will start with the C class...
So here is my spin: Its not about the number of cylinders but about the power... if they can get the same power out of a six as they can an eight, hey thats great! I have to admit, a 2.2 liter four cylinder with 354 Lb-Ft of torque... Thats a helluva little motor.
Oh, by the way, I looked at another article on the same site and I learned a bit more about about Bluetec works...
If the ad-Blue stock still tend prematurely to an end, warns the electronics in two stages. If the ad-Blue stock still at least a mileage of 1,600 miles is possible, calls for an advertisement, the ad-Blue reserve to be verified. Is this to 1,000 miles does not happen, it shall with the warning that the vehicle is still 20 times can be started before starting no longer allowed.
Hmm, I wonder if you actually do pee in the tank if it is empty and you have run out of starts if it will actually let you start the vehicle? How cool would that be.
A-ha! I knew I read that somewhere, there was a thread about it a couple of weks ago and could not find my source. Good Catch!
Yeah, I read that site with Bablefish most of the time, too. You have to admit the German is more fun to read, and not all that hard to figure out if you look at the context and roots. You never get doppelt aufgeladene in English, we wimp out with bi-turbo.
As for the Ad Blue, I'm only hoping Mercedes does what Honda/Acura will do with their Diesel so the Ad Blue/Urea injection is not necessary...
