GL 450 shut off in the middle of the road
Second time in last 10 mos. this has happened. Seems like the throttle has serious lag, then x-mas tree lights and then battery dead. Flat bedded.
Any ideas?

That is very scary! I am having major battery issues myself, but have not had it shut off while driving. Great, one more thing to worry about My car is only 3 months old and has been in 4 times for the battery. I hope someone can chime in and help you out.

No need to start a second thread. I've had this problem myself.

I had this same problem with two ML 350's and there are never any fault codes present. I listed my experience on the ML message board under "Goodbye Mercedes". Everyone who experiences this issue needs to post a complaint on the NHTSA website so that data can be gathered to force Mercedes to confront this issue (which seems to be only truck related). The link ishttp://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm. The form is easy to fill out.
Aside from being an issue that could have seriously injured my daughter I own a 2008 GL320 that could be susceptible to the same issue. I will certainly be watching for any shut down issues on my vehicle from now own.

Yes,this is very scary, indeed. I had a similar thing happen to me, right after I picked mine up, and found that I had just nudged the pile of keys on my ring with my knee. Took everything but my house and office key off, and has been easy sailing since. Good Luck!

Dealership replaced fuel senders and fuel sensors and fuel pump and recoded rear SAM.
Guage showed 1/2 tank of gas when it was actually empty--thuis the stall out.
Hopefully this takes care of the situation. I will watch the mileage to fill everytime it hits 250 miloes since last fill-up to play it safe.

Back in the shop
Guage was fluctuating all over the place, the mileage to empty counter was like a rollercoaster. They supposedly now said electronics and replaced the whole rear SAM module and a few other things. Keeping the faith...

That's an interesting point on the gas guage. I put 20 gallons in yesterday and the guage was just below half. I guess these guages are not that accurate.

I could never figure out how much gas was left in the tank by the guage...1/2 full and it would take 16 or 17 gallons sometimes. Must be controlled by the stars or Tri-Stars.

There's something they tell us when we fly an aircraft, like a Cessna; the only time you can trust the fuel indicator is when it reads empty. Otherwise, measure and calculate it yourself! Not very practical in a car, though, is it?

After riding motorcycles for many years, I have learned never to trust a fuel guage. When I'm approaching 400 miles, I know it's time to feed the GL.
