HID conversion?

Got me a new '08 GL450 earlier this month with only the P1 option. The one's with HIDs available were the newer '09s only. I posted these questions in another forum also, seems like there are more GL oriented people over here though.
Anyway, I've read several threads about how NOT to do a conversion on a GL450 coz of this one guy's conversion install gone bad. I looked around several forums and seems like no one else has ever done this yet.
Is there anyone here brave enough to do a conversion? I've got my kit with me already but I havent really started to do it coz my busy schedule just wouldnt allow it yet. The kit I have comes with a capacitor to prevent flicker. A lot of people with R-class MB have successfully done it without a problem. I dont really see any huge difference as far as electronics in both GL and R class vehicles.
For the time being, would there be a reason why I shouldnt do the install?

The only legal conversion is installation of OE units. It's the only one with any engineering behind it--and consequently performance--too.

I think with any aftermarket headlight bulb replacement, you always have to deal with legal implications.
Anyway, other than legalities, has anyone done this mod successfully?

Great article. Where to find time to research the web sites/articles you put on the forum?

I paid no attention to that article and have aftermarket HID installed in R350 projector (not reflector one) and see much better than OEM halogen lights, no glare or flash from other drivers.
BTW, of course OEM HID is better and more expensive too.

So I initially tested the kit I bought and everything was perfect. The beam pattern was perfect, I dont know why people make such a big fuss out of it.
Anyway, I did get stuck trying to put the retainer clip on the HID bulb. The rear end of the HID bulb was a tad bit too big for the clip
. Before I take my dremel out and start hacking away, does anyone have a better idea?
