Toll Pass placement on windshield

I was trying to place my toll pass transponder on my new GL 450 and realized that the rain sensor covers a fairly sizeable area around the base of the rear view mirror. I'm not sure if the dots from the rain sensor interferes with the toll transponder (FastLane Pass/E-Z Pass in the Northeast). To place the transponder outside the rainsensor puts it in a really ugly location in the middle of the windshield. I used to like placing it on the passenger side of the rear view base so I wouldn't have to see it all the time as the driver.

Anyone have suggestions or know if the rain sensor doesn't interfere if I place the transponder right behind it?

Check with the toll authority,
Here in Florida Easy Pass transponders won't work on some Mercedes and BMWs, and require an external transponder.

DSKMD - Our EZ Pass is secured to the windshield on the right-side of the rainsensor (1/2 on the rainsensor - 1/2 on clear glass), about 1" down from the headliner. Hope this helps.

If you have IR glass then you have to place the toll pass next to the rear view mirror area on the windshield or in either left or right bottom corner of the windshield.

Check the online manual for GL for details.

If you do have the IR glass, look closely from the outside for the non-IR glass. You can see the difference on both sides of the rear view mirror and the other locations described in the manual. I have a Valentine peeking through on one side and Florida's toll transponder on the other.

Thanks everybody. I did the half and half thing like you cablvr before I got your message. Now I just have to try driving it through to see if it works.

One thing you can do to decrease the ugliness of these things is to spray paint them with a flat black paint. Then just use new velcro to fasten them in the appropriate area of the windshield that does not have the IR coating. Makes them much more esthetically pleasing, and they blend in much better.

That's a nice suggestion! Never would have thought of it.
Now is the rain sensor the IR coating that people are talking about? I've only had the car a few days so I haven't had the chance to read the manual yet.

No, rain sensor is not the IR film. IR film is in glass and I believe comes with 3 zone A/C. Check the sticker and it should say on that for sure. Easier to crack open the sticker then the manual

If only you guys would post some pics, we could tell just by looking.

Sensor Location

I locate my sensor on the rear moon roof. I know this may not be legal in some states (must be visible in CA) but it works and keeps it looking clean.
