OK, so I put a second wheel/tire set on my GL 450 without TPMS. The little yellow light that shows up in the instrument cluster is annoying. I looked in the manual for how to de-activate the TPMS but was unsuccessful. Has anyone pulled this off? Switching off the on board computer TPMS system (so it doesn't look for sensor feedback)? If so how did you do it?

It's a govt mandated safety system. Do you really imagine it can be deactivated?

Just buy a set of 4 sensors and have them installed on the new wheels. Why compromise safety, especially with loved ones in the car?

You guys are RIGHT! I was just exploring all my options. Anyone know of a good aftermarket TPMS, I heard Seimens makes an excellent replacement part. Any experience out there? Any wholesale online TPMS sources? I appreciate your help.

Im getting my new 09 GL320 Bluetec next week and will be putting on 18" snow tires. I wont spend a dime on these TPMS sensors for winter wheels as they are not very reliable and very expensive. I have some of these sensors on my new 09 F150 pickup and I just have to press reset everytime I start the engine and then a little yellow lights stays on in the panel. I had them tested down to 25 psi and the wheel sensor never activated for the low pressure(35 psi from MFG)
The MB sensors seems more accurate as my wife had a warning once or twice for a 2-3 ibs pressure difference on the 08 GL.

If the sensor lights gets annoying , try puting a piece of black tape on the light in the panel.

I found a decent deal on the sensors from euroamericanparts.com so I'm going to order a set and have them installed in my new rims. Maybe I'll get some of that money back if/when I sell this rim set with the new TPMS included.

Skymark, you won't need them, the Canadian cars don't have TPMS, just a flat indicator driven by wheel rotation speed...

That's funny. In my owner's manual, it shows a picture of the TPMS showing actual tire pressure in all four tires and says "Canada".

You are correct. I would never spend the dough to put them in winter tires, only to have them indicate low pressure, without individual tire pressure.

I know, I went through the menus for hours 'till I concluded the manual was wrong. Also, there are no sensors in my wheels, I think the runflat monitor runs off the abs or traction computer.

skymarc I paid $77.00 for each sensor and another $7.00 for a connector that I was told I needed.
