Mounting front plate?

Plates just arrived for the GL320, and I'm trying to figure out how to mount the front plate without having to drill holes. Any ideas?

Altec Products (altecproducts.com) Show-N-Go. About $50. Their site is down at the moment, but they're good people.

If you are talking about the front/rear polished skid plates, the rear is easy. I had to take the front to the dealer because the bumper cover has to come off in order to get to the mounting area.

I think he's talking about "Tags".

I think you're right about the tags.

When I bought my 550s, they handed me the front brackets for both cars and told me they'd have to drill holes in the bumpers to mount them. They indicated that it's the law for them to provide the bracket, but many owners choose not to put it on their car, at their own risk. I couldn't bring myself to have them drill holes in the front of my brand new cars (the license plates just ruin the whole look... Especially the GL550), so I threw the brackets in with the Spare tires and never thought about it until just recently, when I took the family (in the GL) to the San Diego Zoo.

Apparently they've got some kid that sits in a tower high above the Zoo parking lot with a pair of binoculars, checking out cars for expired tags and missing front plates. I received a "courtesy" notice on my windshield about my plate explaining the CA code 11713-17http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d05/vc11713_17.htm

I've read that the fine is a 25.00 "fix-it" ticket, and frankly, I'm not going to molest the front-end of my baby until I get one .

Yes, I am talking about the license plates. If the GL were mine, I wouldn't mount the front plate at all. However, my mom drives the GL and as an attorney, she spends lots of time at courthouses, where bored police officers seem to be plentiful. It's only a matter of time before she gets one of those fixit tickets, so I'd like to mount the plate to avoid future hassles.

I was thinking about some 3m double-sided tape, but am concerned the plate will move around at higher speeds and potentially scratch the paint on the front bumper.

That show n go plate is pretty cool, but wouldn't look right on a GL do to the angle of the bumper.

THERE IS the solution - get Tennessee tag(s)! Put them on when you go to the San Diego Zoo!

We don't have them either. Hope you don't think I was calling you out. Just wanted to help try to keep the message clear.

My advice to Sticky is to just mount the thing. It's not that bad. I'm gonna put one on my GL so I can attach the "Mom's Taxi" plate I bought myself in Vegas a few weeks sgo...

I may just end up doing that, but everytime I look at the front of my w210, the front plate sticks out like a huge pimple on the nose of a beautiful woman.

Maybe I should just leave it off and hope we never get a fix-it, like we did with our w211.
