I used to run the PIAA Xtreme White Plus too however it wasn't as good as I thought. I recently installed Philips Crystal Vision Ultras which in my opinion is significantly better than stock bulbs and the PIAAs.
However it looks like I'll have to upgrade myself to HIDs in the near future. Amazing informative DIY post!

Although they look similar, the Crystal Visions are brighter and more effective than the PIAAs. But it still isn't HIDs obviously. After looking at your guide, I may have to do it myself soon.

Looking to purchase an hid kit. What wattage did you guys end up getting. Seems like 2 options available. 35w or 55w.
Also anyone convert hi beams to xenon. Is it possible to use the bi-xenon kit for this purpose?

MBWorld Fanatic!
55w. You're better off just switching out the highbeam bulbs with the Philips and calling it a day.

I'm about to put together my order at retro solutions but I had a couple of questions for people that went with them:
1) Their 'vehicle application' option didn't include the GL. But I thought we needed some adapter with a resistor inside to keep the warning light from turning on?
2) I see some people bought the slim ballast and some the some the regular one. Was there any reason to go with one vs other?
3) I'm in Canada so I have the headlights set to always on to fullfill the daytime running light requirement. It looks to me like they are fully on rather than with a reduced output. Can anyone confirm that its okay to run the HID kit in this mode? I've heard that reduced voltage DRL can kill HIDs.
Thanks

One more question:
Looks like Xenith Xenons is another option. Their 3G kit is on clearance now. Seems like their new thing is the LUX kit with some kind of bulb adjusting capability. Anyone used this?
In general any preference for Xenith Xenons vs Retro solutions?
