When this happened to me I had to jump the car to get it out of park, there isn't a way to shift into neutral without power since it is an electric transmission.

Call 800.for.merc and they will send Roadside Assistance. They will attach a special fixture to (I believe) your right-rear wheel which will make it freewheel and the the vehicle can be moved.

Isn't this what the "auxiliary Battery" is supposed to handle? There was a problem with the auxiliary battery wearing out at about 2 years old. You might want to make sure the dealer checks both the main battery and the auxiliary. It is more apt to die in colder climates, mine did and was replaced.

I have a GL 320 08 model purchased brand new. I have had nothing but problems with it at this time I'm in a Lemon law suit at this time. Good luck with yours but I truly think we all need to join forced and get a class action lawsuit against Mercedes because of all of these problems with dead batteries. My car has been back 5 times and left me stranded 7. Also the last time it went back to the dealer they put 600 miles driving my car.. As of right now my husband and I purchased a Dodge 3200 pickup works wonderful while my benz sits in the garage not driving it. Never ever will I buy a Merc.

I would buy a portable power supply from the local autoparts store and keep it in the spare tire compartment.would save alot of time and money.

Ok - good idea. How would you get to this portable power supply when your battery is dead and the rear door is locked? That's where my jumper cables are now, and I can't get to them.

[Edit] Ok - this was a stupid post by me... just climbing over the back seat worked.

There is the mechanical hard key in your remote to open the door. Then your in. If you have a floor jack handy, you can actually raise the rear wheel and push it for jumping or whatever.

To help in getting a jump start from another vehicle I purchased a set of booster cables that are 20' x 2ga. x 600amp. They are also available in 25' x 2ga. X 650 amp. from various online sources.
