Have you tried opening the rear doors with the doors locked? AFAIK, it's almost impossible. You have to haul on the actual lock pin to force it up first, or have someone unlock from the front. If you set up the key to open only the driver door on the first click, then the remainder of the doors, and you just do the driver door, then open the other doors with the unlocking button, opening the front door will not unlock the rear doors.

Now, all of this is only tested by myself in a 2007 GL320.

It's been that way on modern MBs for a while.

An awful oversight on MB's part that was one of the reasons we waited for a 2009. As described above, it's only the regular door-locking ability pre-2009.

Scuse, please, but huh? They have a kid-lock on the rear door(s) now in 2009s?

open each rear door and look at the left outer side for the left door and right outer side for the right door under the latch. there should be a black switch for the child lockout if your vehicle is equiped with that feature.

Even easier than that---try to find it in your owners manual.

BTW, a kid in a safety belt can't reach the door lock, and even then will have a hard time lifting it. Locks are automatically locked at about 2 mph.

Kent, I'm not sure about everyone's but I actually checked on mine - it's 12mph you have to go to get them to automagically lock on their own. When I've had this on other cars (American made, usually rented or borrowed) I have turned it off as it's a tremendous "whack!" sound. It's unobtrusive on the MB, especially when the doors are already locked. My old ears can barely hear it then! (Well, by then I usually have some CCR or Led cranked up as well.)
