2007 GL Rear Entertainment

I bought this used GL450 and it has factory installed RSE and also have IPOD integration kit. I cannot hear the sound int he speaker when I play the DVD. I took it to the dealer and he said that it is designed that way and you can only hear DVD when you put a head set. Is this true?

can't remember, but press either the radio or audio button a couple of times until you see "aux" on the right top corner.

once you see it, push the button and audio from the dvd will come out of the speakers.

When watching movies, you need to unplug the iPod from the cable in the glove box, THEN press AUX and the DVD movie will play on all speakers. OR, leave the iPod in for speaker listening AND use headsets for movies. MB did it this way so the driver has a choice of what to listen to. This is explained in the MB Ipod Adapter manual which you must not have, or did not notice is buried in the stack of manuals in the zippered case. In any event the dealer/service tech should have known....

Enjoy!

No that didn't help. When I unplug Ipod and play movie and hit AUX under audio menu i get no sound. i still cannot play sound in the speaker, something must not be right. should I be looking at the cabling/connection. Any clue where to start from?

From the main audio menu on the center stack screen, press the "rear" button on the right side and be sure "aux" is selected as the source. BOTH the iPod and movie DVD then share this input source.

When audio is playing either from iPod or DVD movie, press the "sound" button on the right side of the screen and then select "Logic 7" for surround sound.

If this does not do it, time for a dealer tech, as something is not hooked up right or programmed right in the audio system controller. There are hidden menu's in the drivers console screen by the speedometer that the tech's can use...
Good luck!

It didn't happen in my case. What I beleive that Ipod somehow is taking the DVD input but what surprises me that my dealer told me that RES is not supposed to play in the speaker.

thats not true.. what happened is that early on in the production year they did not have the supply available of ipod/DVD switching systems. This was resolved later in the year and later models will play the DVD on the 'aux' setting as long as the ipod is unplugged (otherwise ipod plays on aux when plugged in).

The fix for this involves ordering a replacement harness for the factory ipod kit called the AACC harness and replacing the existing ipod kit harness. The cost of the harness is about $90US. not sure if you can get them to do this under warranty or not; its technically not a warranty issue so much as a change in the way the vehicle was outfitted...

take a look at the attached picture: the one on the right is what you have installed and the one on the left is what you need the dealer to order for you.
