2010 GL450 & 5th Gen iPod Nano Woes...

Hi All,

Picked up a 2010 GL450 with the integrated iPod connector and while it plays fine with a 5th generation iPod Nano, it does not seem to charge. I tried the Scosche passPORT which seems to work with 4th gen Nanos, but no joy.

Is there a fix available from MB for this? Part number?

I searched other threads, but didn't find any answers with regards to 2010s and 5th gen Nanos.

Thanks!

I have a 2009 which has the same command/stereo system. I don't believe it charges my ipod either.

2011 GL450
I have 2009 GL450 and it does not show that it is charging my iPod Touch (no lightening bolt shows) but it does in fact charge it. I have put it in with a dead battery and when I get to my destination (1+ hours away) the battery is fully charged. Don't know why it doesn't show it on the screen of the iPod?

I think what might be happening is that it is charging when the the key is in the on position but the iPod is left on when the key is turned to the off position. So, maybe it is charging the ipod when you are enroute to a destination but then drains it if you leave it plugged in after tuning off your car??

2009 GL 550
The cable that came with my 09 did not charge my iPhone 3gs. The Scosche adapter did not work either. I ordered a replacment cable from Mercedes and it fixed the problem. Charges and plays. The part# is 001-827-84-04

Just following-up on my original post. I FINALLY identified the correct replacement part for my 2010 GL: Media Interface Cable B 67-82-4578. Picked it up yesterday from the dealer who ordered it (they called MB and spent some time on the phone with them and identified the correct part, as I was thinking it was 001-827-84-04). Installed and tested it last PM, charges and works great with a 5th Gen iPod Nano and Iphone 3G.

2010 E350 Coupe, 2010 GL350 Bluetec
I was trying to get my wife's iPhone 3G to work with our 2010 GL 350 and 2010 E350 Coupe two weeks ago. Same as all of you noticed that the cables came with the cars don't charge. Got Scosche passPORT and it didn't work, in the first attempt. Then I read it from somewhere that I have to plug it in, along with iPhone 3G before I switch on the engine. That seems to do the trick. I however didn't like this work-around and the fact iPhone 3G dones't clip and lcok into place well to Scosche passPORT.

So I talked to the dealer and complained the thing doesn't work with our brand new vehicles. They did some study and got back to me that there are newer cables avaialble to resolve this issue and would replace those cables for me free of charge. I was just informed the cables are there and will pick them up next week.

A few things I noticed during the process:

1. The iPod cable came with GL looks different and has a different part number from the one came with E Coupe. One with the two cables (iPod and AUX) come straight out of the connector, and the other at 90 degree position. They however have the same type of connector to the cars. I cross tested them and found both worked with either car (be able to play through COMAND and of course, not charging).

2. The dealer informed me the part number of new cable for GL is # b6-782-4528 (same as Craig Lnu got) and # a001-827-85-40 for the E. I would think both will work with either car as the old ones though.

3. At the same time I asked why there isn't an USB cable while the manual indicated there is. They had to do some study again and came back said it's an accessory (# b6-782-4528 for the GL and # 204-827-03-04) that plugs into the slot in place of the cable with the iPod and mp3 connectors. I ordered one, for the E, and assume it will work with the GL. Will find out next week. I was quoted $70.
