Looks great!! Can you provide any details on the swap? I assume you are using the OEM leds on the 2010. Was it a direct swap or did you have to cut/finagle the new ones to fit the original bumper? Also how was the electronics connected? Did you have to do anything special? I keep reading that you may have to go to the dealer to get the car's lighting system to accept LED lights (so they don't flicker). I've love to be able to do this on my '07!!! Thanks in advance.

My local dealership was unable use the the STAR diagnostics to convert to LED mode; the installation of a "50 watt/ 6 ohm load resistor" resolved any error coding:

http://store.ijdmtoy.com/50W-Load-Re...d_resistor.htm

However, to facilitate the install I also had to purchase a 2010 OEM LED wiring harness to swap out the end plugs with a little splicing to insert into the back of the DRL LEDs because the original foglight plugs are a completely different configuration and wouldn't fit.

The other key is to have a friendly and patient parts contact at a Mercedes dealership who can pull up the schematic diagram of the 2010 DRL LEDs and order all the proper parts (LEDs, chrome pieces, black
inserts). There are two different sets of OEM DRLs; the shorter ones fit the GL 550 and GL 320/350, and the longer ones fit the GL 450.

As you might notice in the photos, I also installed a lowering kit.

Fog lights

Maybe its me -

those LED's are DRL's - correct? so what do you do for fog lights?
I have a P2 package on my 320 and the fogs/driving lights are very bright -Aren't the LED's strictly DRL's?

The mods are a bit pricey, but worth every penny to me to obtain the 2010-look, updated function, and personal style, I want in a vehicle that I utilize as a daily driver.

I also got a great deal when I purchased the vehicle as a year-end close-out on September 30 (last '09 one on the lot).... I like the fact that I was able to pay thousands less than invoice, get a unique color (pewter), get the upgraded 2010 electronics, "go green", and get a tax break!!!... The $$$ I saved has allowed me to customize my diesel extensively during the past few months.... I will provide a summary in a separate post in the near future; I have been very busy.

I am not one who usually interacts on these these blog sites, but I do feel obligated to share my knowledge just as you guys have done (Thanks, "BlownV8" for the HID thread); thus allowing me to update my ride with the least amount of headaches.... I am only "paying it forward"!!!

***Check your bumper opening to determine, whether the 2010 GL 350/450 LED DRL (long/single chrome strip) parts are needed; those numbers will vary from these.***

2010 GL 550 LED DRL (short/dual chrome strips) part numbers are as follows:

164-820-07-56 DRL lamp
164-820-06-56 DRL lamp
164-885-55-23 Bumper cover
164-885-56-23 Bumper cover
164-885-13-24 Bumper cover
164-885-14-24 Bumper cover
164-885-09-24 Bumper cover
164-885-10-24 Bumper cover
164-440-00-40 Wiring harness

http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/a...Upgrade-10.jpg

Each side for my install required two chrome pieces (upper and lower) which attach by snapping securely into the bumper's pre-cut holes, a LED lamp, and a black mesh-like backing. There is just a little obvious trimming that is needed to allow the width of the LEDs to fit into the opening, which can be done with a pair of scissors or a utility knife.

The new wiring harness is needed to switch out the female end plugs/connectors to fit into the male LED DRLs plugs, which are different from the foglight plugs. Wiring connections can be accomplished by using a basic wire splicing kit.

Also load resistors easily snap in place and eliminate flickering and code errors.

This project set me back about seven hundred US $$ for parts.

Good luck!!!

So do these, once installed, function as true DRLs or as wheel-turn sensitive fogs like the normal lights?

So how bright are they compared to the regular fog lights (it seems to me that since they're DRLs, MB wouldn't be worried about illuminating the road too much with them...)?

Unfortunately, I don't have a "lumen" meter to give you an answer, but since I had already added the 6000K HID headlights, "I'm" not "worried about illuminating the road too much with them"... either.
However, they do look better to me than those rounded projector foglights, whether they are on or off!

LED DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS CHANGE OUT ON 2010 GL 450

Hi,
We ordered the GL 450 and neglected to put the LED lights on the order. Could you tell me what the steps are for changing out the the lights. I see that you have the info for the 550, but I have the 450. I called the dealer here and they said it would cost about $2000 to change the lights and bumper. I don't want to change the bumper! Just the lights! Could you please tell me what the exact parts are that I need and what the steps are to changing out the lights. I also called Platinum motor cars and they will do it for a little less, I would like to do it myself and save more than $1000.

Your help will be greatly appreciated! Your car looks awesome, from what I can see you did a great job.

Thanks in advance

I would like to put those wheels on my gl 350 steel gray in 20" size. Are they rated for the load?? How about the stock wheel sensor, did you just swap them?

So was the overall installation diffucult? I got a steal on my 2010 GL. But the only package its missing is the lighting package. I've got the Xenon's coming in early next week, and all i have left are the LED Drl's.

these are from the gl550

I think
164-820-08-56
164-820-09-56
might be the lights for the gl450?

Fog lamp Left - W/led lights 2010

same price, but different numbers and description. no photo available.

Could you measure the left to right size of your bumper opening that the foglight came out of, or better yet, the size/width of your old black fog light cover that came out.

my gl450 07 is 11 inches wide on both the top and bottom horizonal bars "top edge"

Yes, they are strictly DRLs.

Germans have determined foglights are superfluous if you have HID lighting.

That's why the 2010-11s with halogen lighting have both fogs and DRLs, i.e. two lights per side.

They've also decided that touchscreen nav is "more dangerous" than those ridiculous fiddly buttons they scatter all over the interior, so you may not want to put too much stock in what they design just because "they" designed it.

Yes, I love inputting destinations with that wiggly joystick that goes right instead of down about 30% of the time, which requires me to move back to the letter I was trying to type and try again. A much better system than those pesky touchscreen systems that allow you to go directly to the category/letter you were trying to input.

Speaking of the fogs, is there a way to turn them on full-time with an 08? From the manual, it looks like the headlight switch is supposed to pull out or something similar, but mine does nothing but rotate.
