Discount on gl 350

We're in the market for a GL BlueTec, also looking to take advantage of the USAA deal.
Dealer is asking for a refundable deposit of $2,000 before he can show us the invoice on a car he may ship from upstate. I can understand if he wants an invoice for us to order a car, but do I really need to give him a deposit to just to know what the invoice is on the car?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

The refundable deposit deal makes no sense. They are playing games with you. If I were you, I would go to the MB website, find the dealerships that are in your area or that are in an area that you would be willing to fly/drive to. Or, go to cars.com or autotrader.com to find your car. Just start calling. Tell them what you want and that you want it to be in their inventory. If they have your car, tell them to give you their best price with or without the USAA deal. Just be very specific about what you are looking for so that they know that you know your stuff. You are in the drivers seat and their goal is to make you feel otherwise. Dealerships love customers that will not travel to purchase.

If you're using a USAA certified dealer they must tell you up front.
Let ZAP/USAA know.

As stated above, just go on line for USAA and request a quote using their process. Don't go around it or you won't qualify for the $3500 rebate.
Here is how mine worked with the USAA program:
Went on line and put in my requirements for a GL350. It returned a certificate that I took the participating dealer - which is the same dealer that I normally use.
The dealer told me that their negotiated fee is $1400 over invoice LESS the MB $3500 rebate. They were up front about the invoice price and the selling price. No negotiations.
The dealer showed me the price on several in stock models. We decided to order a vehicle. We submitted the order. I gave them my CC number for a $1000 deposit (this was a month ago and my card has not been charged).
We will take delivery in early June. Oh, and Obama is going to give me a $1800 tax credit too.
FYI, the USAA rebate ends on June 30, 2010.
Hope this helps.

There's a dealer outside washington dc in maryland (think it is euro motors) who offered the lowest usaa price among the participating dealers even if you won't qualify for the $3500 rebate. Check them out.
