Unhappy headers or exhaust

Just got my 2007 GL450 with 40,000km on it. Added some really cool 22" rims and Pirelli tires which has changed the whole look of the vehicle. I am now looking for a little more "rumble" from the engine and cannot for the life of me find headers or a neat exhaust (from the catalytic to the tips) that will work. I ordered an "exhaust" on line that was said to fit a 07 GL450 and when I took it to the muffler shop the guy hoisted it and said he had no idea what kind of a car this would fit - but certainly not mine... Any ideas where I could find something that would add the sounds I am looking for would be greatly appreciated. I seemed to have searched everywhere on line without any success.... Cheers

you bought the wrong truck. the one that makes more noise is the 550.

seriously, dont bother would be my take in it. there is a reason why there is no large selection of exhaust products for the gl.

The reason there isn't a large selection of exhaust products is because the typical owner of a GL is not the 20-something kid, but the soccer Mom or 30 to 40-something Dad (read: people that usually aren't interested in a good growl out of their child hauler). I'm looking into having my exhaust opened up a little to get some growl out of it, and I would love any info other forum members have.

Pretty good answer! I myself can't see putting some sort of ricer fart-can muffler on a vehicle as nice as a GL.
Perhaps some performance oriented engine modification shops may have something to offer.

You forgot 50-something balding happily married men in your owner demographic

Actually Denver, but yes to the fact that 3oh!3 is from Boulder.

My thinking is not so much a ricer muffler - more deleting the resonators (if the GL has resonators?) or something to let the growl that I can hear under heavy acceleration out a little more.

And 50-somethings are beyond unenlightened stereotypes, so pardon your lack of citation there.

dad with 3 kids

I know the car likely caters to the soccer moms and execs - but my wife drives a minivan so this is my "fun" car that we can actually still fit the whole family in... Not looking for a silly "souped up honda" sound - just a little more throaty sound when i accelerate... Had a Mini Cooper JCW a few years back and it had a header and a K & N air filter and it had a nice little rumble without sounding like i was looking for a street race...

Just take your truck to a good stainless steel exhaust shop and they will build you an exhaust. This will be your best option. I seriously doubt you'll be able to buy anything pre-fabricated that fits. Go custom!

Actually, Forbes magazine ranked the GL as one of the top ten vehicles most predominantly driven by men. Not sure about age but I agree that there probably aren't that many 20 somethings driving GLs around.
