GL breakdown on trip
We were on vacation visiting Burlington VT and our 2008 GL 320CDI would not start. The engine would crank but not start. I called Mbrace and they summoned a flat bed. The nearest MB dealer was only 3 miles away which was very fortunate considering it was only dealer in the state. Of course when the flat bed arrived, it started right up. The dealer said it needed a new camshaft sensor and should be back on the road the following day. It was ready at 12:30 and we resumed our trip.
The truck is under warranty so the repair was covered. The unexpected overnight hotel (we were staying in the Adirondacks which was 120 miles from Burlington) and incidentals were covered by the trip interruption plan.
The worst part of the experience was dealing with Mbrace, which required two calls before everything about the repair and trip interruption was fully explained.
The dealership, Automaster was excellent, highly recommend them. The actual dealership showroom is quite interesting with numerous automobile nostalgia and collectibles in the showroom.

I lived in Burlington Vt for 18 years and purchased and serviced our 81 300 D from the Automaster. You were lucky to break down near them.
I was recently contacted by Mercedes to sign up for MBrace to replace the original ? Tel-Aid...I declined.

There was a TSB on the camshaft sensor. If your 2008 didn't have it done that could very well be the problem. These "help" services are sort of half-n-half. Personally, I recall the days of having to find a pay phone to call for help ...

About MBrace versus Tel-Aid. I don't know how good or bad either would be because I never had to use them. I imagine the are about the same or MB would not have changed. But the offer to change form Tel-Aid to MBrace for a ONE TIME charge of about $290 for the life of owning your vehicle was hard pass up versus paying Tel-Aid $260 per year every year. And the Tel-Aid annual subscription is bound to go up in the future (certainly not down). I hope to keep my 2008 GL320 for a long time and the change will end up saving a lot of money so I took advantage of the offer.
