Fees when you buy a new car
Hello all.
I found 2 deals on GL350. The dealer charges $395 doc fees.
Is it unavoidable fee or I can negotiate it ? And Can I do a better deal ?
Deal 1 :
GL350 - MSRP -$70,110
Selling price $63,099 + tax + destination $875 +$399 registration + $395 doc fees.
Deal 2 :
MSRP $71,135
Price $64021 + tax + destination $875 + $399 registration + $395 doc fees.
Please help.

Depends on what the dealer is doing for you for $395...that sounds steep in my book though. Are you getting paper plates until your metal ones arrive? Will you have to go to your states DMV at all? All questions to ask dealer as a basis for negotiation. I do all my own DMV work and the only thing I had the dealer do was give me 60 day paper plates for $50. No way in hell would I have agreed to pay $395 for that.

GL 350
Its added profit disguised as doc fees. They say they need it for the admin part. Its negoitable. I always ask if there is an extra fee for the service writer and then compare it to that.

I agree, both of those deals are good. I think they just wanna move inventory at the end of the month/quater.I will probably take the one with MSRP $71K. They said delivery must be till the end of this month. Still waiting till tomorrow for another dealer quote, but I don't think it will be better.

What's the option on the 70k one? I'm looking for one with P1, trailer, lighting & blind spot assist. I can probably drive to NY to pick one up.

the doc fee and the manufacturer holdback are the only true profit items and they usually go directly to the dealership owner. as such they are non-negotiable from a salesperson perspective. if a dealer "waives" the doc fee that means they are making it somewhere else.
