Thanks to everyone for offering your insight and some details on the deals you've received. My wife wanted something larger than the ML we picked up last fall, so tonight we go to get our "almost new" '11 GL450. Have to eat a little on the ML, but we got pretty close and our deal is stellar (in my opinion). Now been from the R forum, to the ML, to here!

Our dealer had a "Brass Hat" with only 5,000 miles in White over Black, and that was the combo we wanted. It has P2, parktronic, boards, wood wheel, and tow pkg. No lighting package, but we'll deal with it. It was the regional sales manager's vehicle for MB, and it's as close to perfect as you could expect. They did a full A service for us, plus replaced all the cabin filters, in/out full detail, and everything is there as if it were new. Since it has never been titled, it is in fact considered new for the warranty, Sirius, MBrace, etc.

Looking forward to a road trip. And what's also nice is that our floor liners, cargo/pet barrier, and other stuff are all going to work in the GL. Thanks again and I'll get some pics up either later or soon, depending on the weather!

I drove an ML for a couple of days when my GL was in an extended stay (the local Enterprise had an ML 320 CDI in stock, wildly enough). I enjoyed it a lot, it was a lot sportier than my GL, but the GL felt much more solid and I love the room. As for handling, well, as I stated once before, I very recently had an opportunity to try out the GL's emergency avoidance in a ... ahem ... real-world situation and it was just beautiful. So it is heavy and slower through the slalom, but I think you will like the ride.

Congrats on finding a brass hat!

Welcome... me myself went from a C to Kleemanized E and than 06 ML when the new body hit the dealerships and now owner of a 2011 GL Bluetec, so far its all good plus i love the havier feel of the car compared it my ML and the Pathfinder i had for the passed 3 years. The only think i dont like is that my car dont have the 3rd zone climate for this size of car and costing twice as much as the Pathfinder(it had the 3rd zone climate). So welcome again!!!

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
I was stumped as to what the heck a brass hat is until I found this nugget on the interwebs:

" Brass Hat" was used on any vehicle used as a management demonstrator or zone office demo. It sounded better than "car abused by company employees, now offered for sale as a used car".

Welcome!

Welcome!
Typically, we wouldn't consider a used car but I confirmed this was used by the Regional VP of Sales for MB. Drove from Chicago and visited dealers. Everything was checked out, and the GL is great. Thanks for the welcome. Feel a little like a forum jumper, going from R, to ML, to here!

I bought an '07 that was supposed to be a Regional VP of Sales for MB as well. I believed them since it had quite a few miles on from the time it was built. I also jumped from the ML and am glad I did.

Congrats!

Welcome!

Haha...love the defn! But hopefully MB employees respect their cars more than that. Save the abuse for lesser car companies.
