DIY! You don't even have to put the car on a lift or jack it up. The oil filter (really a filter "element") is just under engine cover. Buy the right spec. synthetic oil (see owner's manual). If it's a diesel engine, it requires a certain type; sorry, I can't recall but it's in the manual. Check all other fluids and reset the FSS (do a search on this site, if not ask and I'll post it later) and bada bing..... you're done! DIY will cost you less than $100. BTW, Keep all your receipts.

I just realized you owned a GL450. I owned a GL450 for about 14 months and I did 2 oil changes on it myself; easy as they come. Just go to Costco and buy 2 cases (each case comes in 6 qts.) of Mobil 1 5W-30. They also come in 6 qt. jugs at your local auto parts store/Walmart. I think the GL450 took 8 qts but check your manual. As for the drain plug, you are going to have to remove a plastic skid plate held by some screws to get to it; it's a no brainer. If you don't have the tools or the time, just take it to a good MB mechanic and save yourself a couple hundred bucks. I prefer to personally work on my cars because I sort of enjoy it and I don't like other people touching my car! Good luck.

If you don't go to the dealer for your service B, how can you get the message to go away? Mine is due in 10 days and I would rather not get raped by the dealer.

BTW..my local shop did reset the service indicator for service 'B' on my E class when they changed oil.

Just did my oil change at 1 year about 90.00 from the dealer in parts. Went to the VW dealer paid 14.00 for 2.5 gallons of ablue, have to top it off this weekend and rotate the tires, not bad! Reset the service per link up above.

i am all for people working on their vehicles and saving money, but not putting the correct oil in your truck is a typical example of why the manufacturers frown at home mechanics more and more often.
