Shopping for tires can I use 275-45-20?

From what I see 275-45-20 is way cheaper than 275-50-20

Let me know if I can use these?
Thanks
Erick

You are better off using 285/50/20 if tire cost is an issue. Speedo will only be off 1.3% vs 3.5% for the 275/45/20's.

No I haven't use 285/50/20 tires but I would go with them over 275/45 for exactly the reason BlownV8 mentioned. There is minimal difference in overall diameter plus you get bigger tire sidewall which means more comfort.

Ertech - I have 285/50/20 Yoko Parada Spec-X tires on a set of OEM 20" rims (I used them this past winter after I sold my GL550 wheels) and it works great. No issues and like everyone said its a hell of a lot cheaper to get this size wheel. The Yoko's were like $150 a piece or something ridiculous like that!

I've since got a set of 22" on the car and took the 20"s off, but will probably put them back on for the winters in the Northeast!

$150 a piece for the Yoko Parada Spec-X is dirt cheap. Really, really good tires. Not to mention 285 looks a little beefier than 275.

I replaced OEM 19" with OEM 20" and Hankook Ventus AS 285/50/20. They are great tires, and as mentioned very cost effective.

The ride is great as is the handling. Haven't had snow yet, but heavy rain is no issue. Looks much better visually also.

Guys.

When you change your tires from size 275/50R20 to 285/50 R 20 - have anybody gone to a dealer with ANY supenssion warranty issues ? Was there any problems from dealer stating that tires size is causing the problem and they refuse to fix it under the warranty ?

Thanks.

I would find that difficult to understand. A tire shop I went to had the 285/50/20 on the computer as an alternate for the GL.

Also, if you note in previous posts, I replaced my tires with the Hankook 285s and when I traded that vehicle in the dealer had it on his lot as a CPO vehicle. You can infer what you wish from that, but to me they are offering an extended warranty on the vehicle with the "non spec" tire size.
