Tpms? How do I know if I have them ?
Hi all , my car is a Canadian GL320 2007 . The valves are flexible rubber ...
Does that mean I do not have TPMS 's ?can there be another type like the band ones?
Thanks

Do you have the TPMS monitor in the center comand console in the dashboard? I think you will get an error on the TPMS monitor if the don't get a reading from the tires. If you don't have the TPMS monitor then I'll get the Canadian models didn't have them in 2007.

My MY11 GL does not have TPMS but does have what's called TPWS (warning system). It's located at the hub of each wheel, so each time I change to new rims, I don't have to transfer or buy new TPMS. The valves in my GL are flexible as well. As far as I know TPMS is mandatory in all US cars but not in Canada.

If your car is equiped tire presure warning 06, early 07.. it runs of the esp signals or wheel speeds. If you lose presure in one tire it will turn at a diffrent speed than the others and the system picks up the diffrence..
In the us the dot didnt like this system and wanted first presure signals which was in late 07-09 than they wanted presure signal read out in the cluster....
But to answer the op ?? if you have the rubber valve you have tpw system with no sensor at all , none in the wheel or in the hub

Mercedes TPMS sensors/transducers are 'tucked' against the inside of each wheel and held in place by a special bolt that screws into the INSIDE of the metal valve stem. Rubber valve stems cannot hold the thread of the special hollow bolt. Therefore, if your valve stems are rubber, you don't have the TPMS sensors that are now used.

True for Mercedes, but other OEM's are using the rubber valves with the sensor on the end of the valve stem - so have rubber or metal doesn't tell you a whole lot these days. Best thing to do is to check service manual on how to relearn them if your putting on winter tires. Most owners manuals tell you reprogram, order sensors or do nothing.
