Replacing Fuel Filter for 2010 GL350

Pickup a Fuel Filter from local Mercedes part store turned out to be the wrong one. The wrong part has both filter hose inlet/outlet on the same side. The part number was A642 092 01 01 on the box and A642 902 07 01 printed on the part. I need to go to the part store to exchange.

I have the intructions to replace the 2011 GL350 fuel filter from Campaign No. 2010110001.

Does anyone has the instructions to replace the fuel filter for 2010 GL350? I am not sure if the instruction is similar to the 2011?

Eh, just get in there and observe. Not rocket science. I use regular reusable worm clamps.

Did a trial run yesterday, removed air duct & everything was pretty staight forward except a wire harness between fuel filter & water level sensor. Will pickup the right part A642 092 03 01 tomorrow. Found quite a bit of engine oils in airduct hole that goes into the turbocharger, some people said it's normal.

I've always felt that the oil observed in the intake plumbing to the turbo is mostly from the oil 'fog' that comes from the crankcase vent system. Others have argued that it actually comes out of the front oil seal in the turbo - just behind the compressor wheel. Some oil always leaks out the front bearing of a properly functioning turbo - back pressure limits the amount - but I find it hard to believe that very much can work its way upstream against the air flow. Take your choice but I like my reasoning better! As long as your oil consumption is low ie on the order of 1 qt/3 to 5K miles) don't worry about it.

Let us know how it goes and it you needed anything special. I'm waiting to do mine as I'm currently at 10K miles.. so have a bit to go to hit the recommended 20K service.

Mercedes expressly forbids use of any clamps except originals.

And, they are replaced and never reused.

They are CLIC clamps and special tool required.

Replaced the Fuel filter. Basically following the Campaign No. 2010110001 instructions. There are three bracket screws holding the fuel filter instead of one shown in the picture of the Campaign. Bought the click clamp plier (about $40) and new click clamps (two different sizes). I would say it takes some learning and observing the first time, the next time will be a breeze. I spent about 2 hours the whole process, the most challenging part for me was putting back the air duct, it's difficult to fit the three holes in a tight space. I must have tried about five times to fit the air duct. Now the one thing left to do is the air filter replacement. Cabin filter replacement through engine wall was a 15 mins job.

First impression on new fuel filter: the RPM went up from 5 to 7. The gas consumption dropped from 26-27mpg to 24.5mpg on the same commute trip. Does anyone know why?

Doesn't make any sense.. you sure you've got no leaks right?

Not noticing any leaks. Will check again when get home. It's weird that the idle RPM went up from 5 to 7 with new filter, maybe the old one clogged up delivered less fuel? My commute route was about 12 miles one way.

The diesel (Fourdiesel, hard to break my habit of saying diesel instead of gas, of course I meant diesel) consumption is back to 26.6 mpg on the same 12 miles commute route.

The reason for the dropped of mpg to 24.5 mpg last week was due to a loosen oxygen sensor harness. Besides that everything back to normal, with the new fuel filter installed, oil & filter changed and new cabin filters.

I learnt a lot more about the diesel engine and saved some $. Not bad at all.

We are all learning about the diesels - all the time. One of the big benefits of these forums. Sorry about poking fun at your use of 'gas' as in fuel - I've done it too!

2010 GL350 Cabin Air Filter Location from inside engine

Attached are two pictures, one has a closer look of the two metal clips. Use flat screwdriver and carefully pop the metal clips so that you can remove the big platic cover. You will see a set of two cabin filters in there. It takes some squeeze to put them back on, they are very soft. To make sure lining up correctly when putting the cover back, I used a touchlight to look through the vented holes on the cover.

Here is another tip, I bought the filter A164-830-02-18 from dealer for $60, also found and bought a spare of the same Mann (original Mann logo box instead of mercedes brand box) filter for $25.02. There are identical filters. I bought them from www.rmeuropean.com.

Thanks kooby! Yes that's the right document. I would also replace the two clips (one large than the other). You need to purchase a special tool as indicated in the document to remove and apply the clips.

I replaced the fuel filter on my 2012 as part of the 20k mile service. I got the clic clamp pliers off eBay for $8 shipped...I don't know how I've been working on German cars for 20 years without buying a set of these, but man what a pleasure dealing with these clips now that I have it.

Took 45 minutes to do the job. I'm guessing next time will be less than 25 now that I know how to do it. I bought the filter at the dealership ($138 since I wasn't certain which one was in there). Hopefully I can find a better deal on one online next time.

I don't notice any difference now that it's done; which is exactly how a fuel filter change should be.

replacing the air filters on the cdi motor requires engine adaptation reset via das.

failure to do so will mess up air filter flow baseline which will mess up your service c election in the schedule as well as it might hamper performance and driveability.
