Voice Control System not working. Help.

The voice control system in my 08 GL550 doesn't work. Followed the user manual, turn on ignition, power on COMAND system, press Voice on bottom on steering wheel, no beep.

Speakers are not mute.

Did I miss something?

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
I wouldn't worry about this particular feature - I've never used it at all, in fact it's quite terrible.

The one in the W221 S Class is pretty good. The older W220 S Class is terrible though. I'm not exactly sure which system the GL is based off of.

Anyways, on the R I just have command on and I press the steering wheel button and it tells me to "say a command." Are you sure you're pressing the voice control on the right side of the steering wheel? The left one is a cancel button.

Pretty sure pressed on the right one. The left is with off on it.

I just got the truck week ago and working on figuring everything function out.

Interesting thing is there is no VC submenu in SYS setup. I was suspecting VC was no installed, however the previous owner confirmed VC worked before and occasionally not working recently.

Then maybe ask the dealer or a shop/ technician since you seem to be using it correctly.

Do you have the original owners manual stuff? ON mine, there is a SEPARATE VC operating manual and it requires that you 'adapt' the system to your voice patterns. You MUST do this with the engine on and the car STOPPED. [They don't want you do get 'distracted' when driving I guess!] It will NOT take your commands until it is adapted to your voice (and your wife's if she drives it also). The separate manual dives detailed instructions on how to do it, but I haven't bothered because I'm always going somewhere and don't want to take the time to mess around with a clutzy computer voice recognition system. (almost as bad as the server this forum is on)

I do have the separate VC manual and tried many times in my garage. Didn't even get a chance to go that far to adapt my voice. The VC system doesn't seem powered on because there is no "beep" when press the Voice button with COMAND on.

You got the car a week ago, so it's not like it stopped working?

I'm going to guess it wasn't an installed option. The steering wheel in my 07 has the voice command buttons, but they don't do a thing. I didn't have the voice command option on my vehicle when I bought it. In fact, since the buttons were there I asked the dealer if it could be added and the cost was prohibitive.

I'll bet you have the same situation, buttons but not part of the original configuration.

I stopped by a MB dealer and got a tech to check it. He printed out the options of my truck by VIN and there is option396 Linguatronic-American on the list. He suspected the Voice Control Module(inside the internal rear mirror) is died and need further diagnostic. Needless to ask it would be a expensive fix.

Any one ever touched this module?

C250 Bluetec 2015 model
I bought C250 Bluetec, today I argued with Mercedes dealer about the voice command button (not doing anything) apparently he says it only works if you have the Vision package, as well having no hard drive. I am ashamed that such a big name with a steering button doing nothing
