Thinking of buying a CPO 2012 GL450 w/ 40k miles. It has P2, blind spot assist, bixenons, appearance package, parktonic, rear seat entertainment.
Quoted $43,800.
Unlimited Milage Warranty would run out in Oct 2016. I can add two more years for around $3500 which would end in Oct 2018.
Kelly Blue Book tells me $44k is a fair price.
Thoughts?

W/o knowing much about the car itself I can tell you that "average money" for an "average condition" 2012 GL450 with "average 31k" miles is $39,009.Originally Posted by Vik888

I would suggest you use edmunds.com as a more realistic 3rd party value guide - objective is to pay Private Party Sales Price to the MB Dealer including CPO warranty - I am not saying that's where you can/will end up - but you need a more agressive target than what you have now.
Remember - it's the dealer who makes money with you having the CPO warranty - the purpose of the CPO warranty is to insure the dealer gets the service/repair work and not a indie - yes CPO warranty reduces your future risk - but frankly the CPO guarentees the dealer future income.
It's now July 1st - you did miss the June-end-of-month push - at the same hand dealers push hard for July 4th weekend business.
Keep the beat !

We would have but already took delivery of a new car on the 30th, so this had to wait. We can wait it out until July 4th weekend.
Price has already dropped another $1k since we left the lot to $42.8k

My general rule when negotiating with dealers is to subtract 6% from what they are asking. In this case that gets you to $40,400. Offer them $40k, and then negotiate up to between $40.5 and $41. You'll find the point at which they won't go any lower and know that's going to be your number.
If it's a good vehicle, I wouldn't lose it over a grand. I find that it's very difficult to find the car with the equipment that I want, and this one is optioned nicely (I don't see full leather on there, which is one of my 'must haves' but might not be critical for you.)

Thanks for all the advice everyone.
Turns out this CPO GL450 has a service missing. The dealer cannot explain when and if the 30k mile service was ever done. Not sure how it was "Platinum Certified" but it is now a CPO GL450.
I assume the CPO warranty would be honored never the less so maybe its in my best interest to use this missing service to negotiate.
The car was a lease return and all the other services are done 10k, 20k, 40k. 30k is missing.
