2012 GL450 and iOS 8.1

Suggestions? I am about to test the bending function!

Thanks in advance...
this is my biggest fear with vehicle, not being able to get the iPhone 6 to work.
My 5 works with the 8.1 iOS. I bought the apple adapter from the 30 pin to the lightningcord for 39 bucks. Charges and I can stream music via the cable, but still can't get the bloothtooth to stream music. Unless I buy that adapter.
This is beyond annoying and surprised that Apple dropped the ball like this. Was hoping there was a Mercedes workaround...

My biggest pev is why this vehicle is not up to par with technology? When I looked at them earlier the sales guy came right out and said if your looking for technology this is not the vehicle for you. I knew it did not stream via Bluetooth but I made the guy sync it up on the spot. Before I bought it I went through every button, switch and lever to make sure it worked and what did not, I made them fix it before I signed the bottom line. They gave me a bit of crap saying they would take care of it afterwards, but we all know that a famous line of BS to get you to take ownership. I stood my grounds and made the fix it! You're the one baying the big bucks and it should work! I was missing a remote for the DVD and a bag and lighter and liner and cover. I made them sign me an I owe you slip.
You may want to try going to the dealership and getting one of the sales people to help you. My Lexus they have a techno specialist even if you did not buy it from them assist with the phone and gadgets. Have never had a problem yet. I know the local Benz shop has one as my co worker just bought the small cross over. they set her up after she signed off.

Yes, our Iphone 6 phones pair fine, no drips...no errors. No music streaming though, I'll explore that option with the Tune2Air bluetooth dongle connected to the media connection cable in the glovebox. If that doesn't pan out as well as I'd like, I'll hit up the Pioneer - Apple Car Play option.
The outdated tech in my 2012 head unit, really bugs me, just saying.

Just upgraded to the iPhone6 last weekend. Paired the phone w/ the Command unit, no problem. Initially I put the Command in "Update Devices" model and it kept on spinning its hourglass forever. This was while I was driving kids to school in the morning, so I stopped it until I parked at their school. Then I started FIRST with the iPhone by looking at available BT devices, and THEN i had Command "Update Devices". Magically the device was connected, offered me to enter a passkey and then enter the same passkey to the other unit, and voila, everything's perfect.
The last time I had the Benz in the shop they updated the Command head with the latest software. Not sure what that was all about but they went over the truck and fixed a bunch of stuff that needed addressing.
Anyway keep reporting the tidbits to us.
I've got a friend that has the VISEEO WMA3000. It says it works with BENZ, VW and Audi. Nothing about adapters being used, famous last words, right?
Wondering if the their lighting cords work? I've not seen his VISEEO yet. We are to hook up for lunch next week weather permitting. We were to hook up this weekend, but we got hammered with snow. Did not feel like spending the night in the middle of nowhere to figure out the cord deal and decided on another time.
From looking at the VW cords and the VISEEO they look identical. Has anyone done some testing? He's driving VW. I'll report back if any of this works.

My kid's 2010 Honda CR-V has more on the ball than this mechanical marvel does! Even my wife's Lexus LX-570! I leave the shop cleaner than what I came in with! Granted you pay for it, but you pay Benz too. Am I missing something?
I would not be so wound up if my kid's would not constantly remind me how outdated the technology is on the Benz. My youngest reminded me the other day the only reason she uses the Benz is for the Haul @$$ feature, full tank of fuel and Dad your radio sucks! Thanks needed to fully reminded of that!
If I were in it more than what I'm currently doing I think I'd be more wrapped around the axle. For now I just have to live with it.
Let us know how the VISEEO works. I have the 1000, not impressed at all. Perhaps the 3000 is more up to par? What version did you end up buying?

I purchased the 1000 model because our 2012 has the 30 pin connector, non-USB. According to all the Youtube videos and websites, that was the version to go with.
Keep in mind, sound quality I've noticed will vary with bluetooth devices. Don't expect Bose/Bang and Olefsen quality sound with a $90 dongle. If you are, do it the hard & expensive way....yank out the OEM head unit and install an upper tier Alpine/Pioneer aftermarket box and upgrade the speakers too. If you're paying under $1500, you're half-assing it, IMHO.
It's when you try and use the Bluetooth on the phone to make and take calls is when the quirks rear their heads. It asks like it's competing for the same channel? Other than that it seems to work OK.
Yes, agree the Bluetooth audio streaming is not the best. Using the 30 pin connector that's currently in the glove box and the OEM Apple Lightning to 30 pin adapter works, but the length of the cord is the gobstopper. That works without the quirks of the VISEEO 1000.
For Bluetooth now I'm using the VISEEO 1000 and disconnect it when not in use. Everything works fine then.
I don't want to dump any more money into this project. This includes the radio and or speakers. I'll never get my money back.

Like I said in the other threads, I'll give this thing a try and make a judgement call. The $90 opportunity cost won't hurt very much. I've been through worse.
I tried Spotify first. The sound was good, adjusted the bass & treble levels in the GL's head unit to improve the music loudness & clarity. I was able to skip songs with the steering wheel (left) buttons and increase volume (right) buttons.
To view song info within the dashboard behind the steering wheel, I had to turn the car on (engine off, one key turn).
Then I tried the iTunes app, the sound was a little low but decent. Then I tried Pandora, sound was better but couldn't skip songs with steering wheel controls unless the car was on (engine off, one key turn).
For the money, this is a good buy. I get full info of songs, playlists, music streaming while simultaneously being connected with the iPhone to receive/make calls.
No need for the $700 Pioneer NEX head unit upgrade with Apple Carplay as of yet, this will do for now. If $1000 is burning in my pocket and I need to impress my friends OR this archaic OEM Mercedes NAV system gets on my last nerve, I'll make the jump. Until then, this will do.
This is the latest device from VISEEO that works with MB, Audi and VW.
Happy to report that it does fit into the Media outlet where the OEM plug was plugged into. Simply remove the current cord and plug in the VISEEO 3000A. No adapters, bending, removing pieces or modifying of any hardware needed. 100% plug and play!
The Bluetooth synced right up the first time. 0000 is the code. It found it right away. No holding the left hand up and cocking your right leg back and wiggling your nose. 100% plain sitting on your butt did the trick!
So I have the phone synced to the command and to the VISEEO 3000A now. Both going at the same time.
After hooking it up it went right for my iTunes library like a bird dog to a bird! Turning off the iTunes does no good it just turns right back on. Had this problem before. Only if you change the source of the music on the command will it stop.
Took a call on the way home the latency was much better but was still present. Not as bad as the VISEEO 1000.
The songs don't keep up with both of the displays. Sometimes they would go into Chinese. It did this before as well.
iHeart Radio works, but again it went right for my iTunes library. It's like you have to frantically turn on IHeart Radio before it finds the iTunes library.
I did not try Pandora. Will report back on that.
I've not used it with the VISEEO, just with the OEM Command Bluetooth itself. Every time it spouts off the turns it comes through the Command system speakers. It looks like it's trying to make a call out. After a few seconds the screen goes back to the idle tel screen until the next turn comes across.
The 3000A seems to work a wee bit better than the 1000. For another 100 bucks I think I'll stick with what I have and call it a day.
Also the Bluetooth profile from the 1000 I deleted off the phone. It uses the same 0000 pass code as the 3000A does.
I have an older iPod that I'm thinking about using and will go back to the 30 pin OEM cord that came with the Benz and periodically sync that and keep it in the glove box to hold my iTunes library.
I am wondering if the VW or the Audi lightning OEM cord will work? Since the 3000A plugs right up without any question! Who's got An Audi or VW that can test this theory out?
Won't this drain the battery?
Wifey just texted me, she can't open the rear trunk door with her remote and I'm worried the battery may have been weakened (or it's the common issue everyone's been complaining about with our model car, dealership repair)?
