2008 GL320 CDI EGR, DPF,
A month ago I purchased a 2008 GL320 CDI with 69,000 miles.
The prior owner had an issue with the swirl motor around 67,000 miles. The Dealer repaired it for $2,700+/- I thought I would be trouble free the next 50K miles. NOT!!!
The other day the motor went into safe mode CODE P1402 Looks like the EGR is not Happy.
I bought the GL thinking I would eventually disable the EGR, Swirl Valves and DPF.Looks like I'm doing it now.

As it turns out the P1402 code was the DPF Pressure Sensor. $90.00 Part
The ECU was Re-Mapped and the Swirl Flaps and EGR were disabled. DPF regeneration and DPF filter will be deleted soon. For now I feel my Torque Power has increased a lot. The MPG also has increased a minimum of 2 MPG

The link below is to a company that does remapping including EGR delete, DPF delete and gives a real nice horse power increase along with better fuel mileage if you keep your foot out of it. The Jeep guys with the same engine we have highly recommend them. It's on my list of thing that I will at some point get to, most likely in the spring.

Choose the g class Eco tune, that is the gl tune. If u want the hot tune then add it in the comments section when ordering. For other mods to the vehicle choose the mercedes custom, this is ordered after u get the Eco or the hot tune.

I've had the GDE eco tune for about a month now. So far so good. A little performance increase and about a 10% improvement in fuel economy.
I wonder what people's experiences are with the DPF delete.

I've put about 200 miles on the gde "hot" tune with dpf delete. At idle and tip in throttle engine has slightly more injector noise but not louder through the exhaust. Turbo spool is vastly improved giving the gl a much better take off. Now that the trans has adapted, part throttle is very strong making passing maneuvers a joy. Wot accelerate gives initial but little smoke and yields excellent power throughout the power and it drives like a strong v8 motor. I haven't done formal mileage figures but it has averaged about 26 mpg on 100 mile trip. Now I don't miss my tuned 05 e320 anymore!

I wanted to contribute to this tuning thread as I've had a great experience with the Green Diesel Engineering (GDE) tune as well as the GDE team. I put the ECO tune in place about a month ago to increase performance and disable the swirl motor and EGR function, and I have to say the results have been great. The ECO tune greatly improves daily driveability as the truck has more power at tip in and handles passing endeavors much better once the transmission adapts to the newfound power. The engine starts easily and runs very smooth with only a slight increase in noise. Plus, my fuel economy has increased about 10% or 1-2 miles per gallon. There is only upside to this tune in my mind as you gain horsepower and torque, driveability, and fuel economy, which normally suffers when tuning a vehicle.
I'd highly recommend GDE (http://greendieselengineering.com) and their tune. The team is very friendly, knowledgeable, and customer-focused as they spent half an hour on the phone answering my technical questions. Plus, they were extremely quick to ship their product and respond to requests. It's refreshing to deal with such great people. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again.

Actually, I do not work for GDE and have no affiliation with them. I've just recently purchased a low-mileage GL320 and am very pleased with the results of their product and service. I've chipped a number of vehicles over the years, some more successful than others, so I wanted to give kudos where they're due.

blown v8 I have a positive results with GDE too.
They will work per customer request to adapt each tune, I had a bit of noise, contacted them, they emailed me another tune, plus explanation why there is a noise.
As I said cars look the same outside, but inside components may very, that is why dealer wants a VIN number, as the same year cars can have minor changes on the components

Any suggestion on NON DPF pipe, or go to muffler shop and ask them to make one up
Also I got almost 28mpg on 180 mile trip, 5 hours, where 2.5 hours in snow/slow mountains, the rest highway, still with DPF, only EcoTune, wonder how it will improve without it.
Thanks

I would take it to a custom muffler shop and have them remove the element so it still looks factory. However, you will need a work around for the pressure sensors, or else you'll wind up with a CEL.

You can get another tune from GDE for $100 only that includes DPF delete, for "off road" use, I got DPF pipe section from a junk yard, thinking of lust chisel out the hole inside DPF. But wonder what the cost to do a custom pipe before destroying spare one, as it will look 100% stock setup. That is what I like about GDE, you do not have to remove anything from engine compartment and go back to stock file if needed to go to MB for any problems. The only thing will have to swap the pipes if had DPF delete on.
Also I put a custom oil catch can, that routes into air filter the bypass gases, so turbo inlet looks oil free

I didn't know they had the DPF delete option. Good to know.
I'm putting a catch can on too. Parts are still sitting in my garage.

the only thing for DPF delete pipe, you still need a hole for oxygen sensor.
