2010 GL450 w/ 101k AND a 100k warranty??
My question is.... What do you guys think about purchasing a 2010 GL450 with 101,xxx miles? I know it's a lot, but the dealer is throwing in a 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty for the listed sale price of 23k. I am thinking that a vehicle with this many miles is stating to get into the realm of failing, or wearing out, equipment. I am looking for some opinions and real world experiences of what I can expect. Let me have it haha. Thanks guys!!!
Check the fine print on that warranty. You can call extended warranty places and price the equivalent warranty. If it really is a warranty equivalent to the original MB warranty, that's potentially a ton of money.
All in all, as alx said, these trucks age well.

High risk, huh?
Sort of like when the guy reaches for the pen to sign the health insurance contract, and you notice he's got needle tracks on his arm ...
a true all inclusive warranty (18000 parts) with no deductible is $16k with 500 deductible it's $11k. (for GL550 with 69k miles - issue is the high mileage) This is from the Mercedes Dealer and it is a 3rd party warranty. They only provide their own warranty (they take your call and pay you) for new vehicles and CPO vehicles.
He said the GL 550 is a car where lots of things can go wrong that's why it is so expensive.
for teh above you need an inspections that's 300 bucks or just do a service and they include the inspection.
I got a quote from endurance for 5k for their premium coverage including steering and suspension for 36 months/36k miles.
The original quote from the dealer I bought the car from is 3300 and is supposed to be an all inclusive coverage. I am now worried about what is covered and will read it in detail at the dealer. The company is National Warranty and they have an A+ rating and are in business since 1985 which is good I guess.
So if the coverage sounds leaky to me I just go without coverage even though mechanics say this car needs a warranty... key areas from what I learned for the GL are steering, suspension and transmission, so will look for coverage on this.
if anybody disagrees or has comment pls do so... I need to make a decision tomorrow on this for the National quote.

People call them warranties, but they are actually insurance. All insurance costs you more, on average, than the insurance company will pay out. This has to be true, or the insurance companies wouldn't be in business. The only reason you want insurance is to mitigate risk. If you can financially tolerate the worst case scenario, then the insurance is by definition a bad deal.
Speaking of insurance, if the vehicle does go south on you, a decent strategy might be to drive it to the worst area of town and leave it unlocked. Come back in a week and then call your insurance company when you find it either missing or trashed. I'm kidding, of course.
Just set aside the cost of the policy and take your blood pressure meds and learn about what all is likely to go wrong over time. The guys on this forum have been an invaluable resource for me in this regard.
