Lights On Most Of The Time - Cant Turn Off From Switch

Hi all

Late 2011 GL500, even on the sunniest of days the lights come on so I have the dipped beam, DRL's in the front bumper cover and the small yellow colour sidelights on as if I am driving at night. I have the switch set to 0 and it does it most of the time, occasionally the dipped beam doesnt come on so I just have nice white DRL's but then the lights trigger thinking its dark and the DRL's dim a bit.

Ive tried the switch position in Auto, 0 and all other options but nothing can actually turn the dipped beam off when its on.

The lights work fine when I turn the engine off and lock the vehicle up, but I seem to have no control over them when Im driving, do I have a bad switch, if so how do I remove and replace or can I reset the sensor or something?

Thanks

Carl

sensor needs to be checked with star/ das. it might also need to be reset.

they do go bad. rarely, but there is a history of it.

Is the reset with STAR / DAS only or can I pull the fuse to reset it?

Go through your instrument cluster lighting settings and turn OFF Daytime Running Lights - you can only do this while engine is off
You will however lose the illuminated LED bar upfront when sun is out, it will come on when headlights are turned on

Nope the GL550/GL450 2011 and Below sucks when it comes to the light sensor.. on cloudy days my headlights doesn't come and works like it should, on but on a sunny bright day headlight light are on like its dark out.. its a weird system and most people have this issues nothing to worry about or REST.. I tired I have a STAR/DAS system.

Yes mines weird like that too, I can start her up and the dipped beam is off so I only have nice white DRL's in my bumper cover then I drive up the road on a sunny day and bang, lights come on, my DRL's dim down and the front now looks very old and out of date.

Ive since found that putting the switch to the day time driving position only will bring on just the awful yellow side lights which is even worse.

Had a 166 ML63 prior to this GL500 so you can imagine how I hate the yellow lights in this 164

So I'm lucky that I have a 2012? I guess those don't have that issue, even though the 2011 looks pretty much identical to the 2012. Maybe Mercedes updated the sensor?

Has the sensor, which is on the dash in the middle. A smoked looking lens, change in shape in anyway for the new part? Might be an easy way to tell who has what if it does.

I have the 2011 GL550 And from looking at the EPC the Rain/Light Sensor is mounted right below the rearview mirror on the windshield ..

The Yellow Circle is the Sun-Sensor A2518203810

as per this thread

Hmm, that thread says for E class... SO you're saying in a 2012 GL that yellow circle isn't for lights?

Ok, can we get an actual photo of the sensor on the windshield?
