GL350 - Oil Cooler Leak: Can I tackle in the home garage ?

GL350 - Oil Cooler Leak: Can I tackle in the home garage ?
Hey folks - So I've decided to do something about the leak, how bad of a job is it ? Some say its do-able, others say dont even try... I've done a few stuff in the other bimmer (Intake manifold walnut blasting - Valvecover gasket change etc etc) -- Offcourse the risk is always there with brittle bolts that tend to break etc but is it worth $2500 the stealer wants ? thanks for any feedback / suggestions

honestly it is just a common sense tedious job with a lot of steps. it is actually one of the easier tasks imo. if you have a good set of generic tools and average mechanic skills i say go for it...

Roger that! My only fear at this point is taking out that EGR and turbo (bolts are hard to budge)

you will figure it out. they are not that hard. awkward, but not hard. you can soak them in penetrating oil the night before and they will come out.

Make sure to have about 5 gallons of Gojo orange hand cleaner and Purple Power to clean yourself and everything withing 10 feet of the car while you are working on it.

Oh crap, would it help if I drain the oil first, I guess not coz oil cooler doesn't drain... another question: would i get by without taking turbo and egr out

turbo needs to come out. once you go in there you will know what i mean.

and ditto on the cleaning stuff.. it is a dirty/ soothy job. prolly one of the dirtiest

I did. I don't see why someone else can't. Save $2300.

Buy a box of nitrile work gloves at HD or Amazon. Less than 10 bucks for 100. Keeps your hands presentable and avoids absorbing unpleasant chemicals through your skin.
