Found a puddle of oil under the car.

Doesnt look like transmission fluid. Could be differential but differential has a distinct smell, not to mention that the differential holes are both dry.

I'm thinking it might be engine oil? Checked the engine oil and it did seem a bit low compared to the last time I checked it about 3 weeks ago.

It also looked relatively clean so maybe it was from a spill? Although I dont recall spilling any, especially not that far back from the oil fill hole in the front of the engine.

I tried to find the source of the leak but couldnt see anything that was wet or oily. The cross member seems to have collected some oil before it hit the garage floor.

I wiped it down to observe whether it happens again.

Any ideas as to what it might be?

That's way too clean to be engine oil from the inside of the engine.

I would agree, it would have to be darker.

What else is left? Power steering fluid, but wouldnt that be dark as well?

Maybe it was a spill, just not sure when or how I would have done and how did I get it on the cross member...?

Power steering fluid in this car is Pentosin CHF11S (I think that's it) which is that color. Check your levels and look for leaks.

I also think that it is power steering fluid.

Very common for P/S leaks on these vehicles, either from the rack end seals, or the o-ring between the pump and reservoir.

I just had a PS leak fixed yesterday. on my 2014 G63. A loose banjo bolt was the culprit. Fluid was a greasy red color that leaked near from bumper left side front. Left side tire and splash fender guard has to be removed for a fix. Of course I felt vibration, whinning sound and hard steering especially when cold. If you have those symptoms, the reservoir or hoses are the culprit.

The system on the G is different from all the regular cars. The gearbox is an issue on the G wagon, the normal vehicles have all gone to a rack and pinion setup decades ago. We still replace G wagon gearboxes from time to time.
