Tailgate hail Mary

ok I have a 2007 GL450 and when I bought it the tailgate didn't work. It wasn't a big deal cause the dealership said its probably just the latch and they would fix it for me. Unfortunately I didn't get that in writing so I'm stuck hoping that someone can give me some type of insight as to what is going on.

Got it to the dealer and they opened it up and realized its not the latch. Found that the Hydraulic pump and the control box are bad...

Once I replaced those the SDS is speaking to them and they seem to be working but the lift gate still doesn't work. The SDS is saying that it can't communicate with the sensors.

So I go change the sensors and I'm still not getting any action to the door. Won't go up or down. Does anybody have any idea what is going on?

Maybe these links can help steer you in the right direction:

Diagnose rwts (flowchart)
GF80.20-P-1003GZ Rear-End Door Closing Control Unit, Component Description

Also, you can try testing the pumps individually for proper operation (maybe the old ones; find the pinout and provide a 12v input); or test the connectors and lines for continuity with a multi-meter.

Thank you for this insight....I'm going to go over it tonight and see if we can figure out what is going on tomorrow.

Do what you should have done in the beginning. Take it to the dealer and have them fix it properly.

That SAM unit looks baked! When there is corrosion on those part it usually means you have a leak at one of the tailights which allows the water to pool at the spare tire area. Did you replace the control unit? Pump may be good...

your truck in pro jargon is called a "sub".

it is most likely a flood car. good luck

check connectors under the front seats. unplug a few and look inside. if they are corroded (or you see any indication of corrosion or sediment talk to dealer to repatriate the car back to them.
