How do you replace the drl on a 2012 gl 450?

 

What do you have - xenon or halogen?

the bulb comes out the back cover of the headlamp unit regardless. With the xenon bulb it requires careful fiddling with the connector and a twisting motion to unlock the wiring harness.

Must have different functionalities than the 07-10 models.

Anyway! OP you should be able to pry the chrome housing off and the rest should be self-explanatory as it seems according to this post at #9.

 

When the DRL requirement arrived, Germans concluded there was no need for fog lights if the car has HID lighting. You can tell this one does because of the headlight washer, which is legally required with HID lighting. GL with HID lighting get the strip of leds.

you may recall that last GL with halogen lighting had two round lights in this location ... one drl and one fog light.

 

This is correct, however no 2012 X164s are equipped with fog lights. 2010 & 2011 models have the fog light/drl combo that you speak of. For 2012, no matter if the car has HIDs or not, it’s still gonna have the washer housings (even if there are no washers). The easiest way to tell if yours is equipped with HIDs if the housing around the lowbeam projector has a pattern on it like so
