Mercedes 2008 gl450

Hello, hope i can get some help with this before i take it to the MB dealer. In this car, i can turn the key ,dash lights illuminates,i can move the shifter from P to R, or to D, but car does not crank ,i can get it to crank by grounding the relay and cranks all right. I think is the ecm ,not sure, the ecm gets the signal from the EIS and from Transmision by CAN, thats the only thing i know. In my scanner it shows ,(MB start enable=no) when i turned the key to crank position circuit 50 turns on but starter won't function. I just want to know if that could be the EIS or maybe bad ecm because the starter relay gets the signal from ecm. Thank you.

Now just one GL450 with EORP.
Weird things happen when the main battery is failing.
Have you checked it?

Do you have DAS/Xentry?

You need to see what DAS has to say about start enable. I have recently had issues with my GL450, but no start was due to a frozen motor in the fuel pump. Even though DAS did not see the issue.

Fuel pump will engage when engine is cranking. Some GL450 had a simple relay setup and some had Fuel Pump Control Module. If you send me your VIN I might be able to confirm if that is the case.

As for hot ECM - it might be a sign that there is some kind of short that heats the module. I assume you have checked all fuses in the engine bay, under the passenger seat and in the trunk? I would check not just with a digital voltmeter, but with a control light.

Apparently this is becoming a frequent issue on our aging cars

Yeah, I really wish I'd done mine on a preventive basis. Cost me $1K because I was under the gun.
