$2.2 Billion Mercedes Dieselgate Settlement - Impacts GL350 Owners

Hey, guys. How much labor should it be to do the oil cooler seals while the AEM work is being done? Do you think the dealer would do it while they're in there, or is that off limits?

It's not off limits. I just asked my service advisor and he is checking into what the upcharge would be. For sure they will have removed lots of the top of the engine for the AEM work...

Took my truck in today for the AEM. Dropped it off and had a loaner (GLB). When I get done with work later the same day, there’s a message from the dealer to come pickup my truck?? Turns out they didn’t have any of the parts and most of them are back ordered.. How they didn’t check first, I don’t know. Anyways, they’ll call and let me know when all the parts are in and then I’m next.

I wonder how these supply chain issues are going to affect the timeline the AEM needs to be completed by? Doesn't everything need to be completed by September if memory serves? I would assume they can get parts by then, but you never know.

@ddruker , I spoke with my service advisor at Mercedes of Denver about doing the oil cooler seals while they're doing the AEM, and he said it would be $530 additional. It seems like that's maybe 1/4 of normal price, so I suppose I should do it. I don't know for certain if my 2009 GL320 has ever had it done before. What do you guys think? I guess I will drive this vehicle for the next 4 to 5 years.

I would do it for $530, if you are planning on keeping the truck for 4 to 5 more years. In my truck the oil cooler seal has failed on average every five years... I'm two years into my third one currently. I think I recall that here in the bay area the list price for the oil cooler seal replacement at the dealer is more like $4,000...

Under the category of "opening up a can of worms", do you guys think anything else should be done while it's all torn apart? I can see doing optional stuff while they're in there, but it seems like such a massive amount of work being done that it also seems unlikely that it will all go back together without new problems emerging as an unintended consequence. Maybe the thermostat? That part is only $50. Starter? $165 part. Mine makes a funny squeak sometimes. Some of the big hoses? I've already done power steering pump, serpentine belt, idler pulley and tensioner and fuel and engine air filters. I also replaced the plenum (batwing) but I think they're going to replace it again, even though it's only a few months old.

My 2012 GL350 AEM service is scheduled in early February. My question is what forms are required to file my claim and does the Mercedes dealership provide me with a completion ID number. Does the dealership forward this AEM documentation to Hagens Berman or do I forward the forms?
Thanks
Thanks

Has anyone got their AEM service done yet? Mine is scheduled for 2/9. I confirmed that the parts are all in stock and ready to go. I was hoping not to be the first one to report...

Yes, but I don't see anyone reporting back with an actual EMC 5 that was a success or failure yet, except for one guy whose ignition somehow got fried. Let's hope for some good results!

I was scheduled to bring my 2012 GL350 into my Mercedes dealership for the AEM repair on Monday 02/07/2022. Today, I called the service manager to verify the needed parts were in stock for the repair and I was advised the parts are all on backorder and wouldn’t be released for install until late March.
I guess the long wait begins!

After seeing the last post, I called my service advisor and he confirmed that the parts for the AEM are on backorder, so my service which was scheduled for next Monday is now postponed.
They also said they will do the oiler cooler seals "while they are in there" for a $500 upcharge.
So like the prior poster, I'm on indefinite holding waiting for parts. He said I'm first in line...

I was scheduled for 02/07/2023 for the AEM repair at my Bay Area Mercedes dealership however there are several parts currently on backorder. My service manager said probably mid March or June but I have a feeling he was talking about June 2023.
i wonder when it gets to the point when Mercedes will be placed in a position to buy these vehicles back at todays retail value?

Still waiting for the AEM repair on my 2012 GL350! I’m being advised parts are NOT available so my concern is the
10-2022 deadline. I wonder what happens if there are no parts for this “fix” and if Mercedes is able to just wash their hands of this issue?

I scheduled my 2010 GL350 as soon as available, Jan 27th, as I had the dreaded CEL and DEF countdown timer so it had been parked for 6 months knowing the AEM was coming. Received call from the SA a couple of days later saying the EGR was backordered and would not be available until March/April. Good news is I have a 22 GLC loaner car. Also, received call from SA asking about replacing the oil cooler for $1,000 in parts (others in this forum have estimates of $500+) so I am agonizing given oil cooler was replaced 15K miles ago. Any advice on the oil cooler?

The $500 quote was for the oil cooler seal only - it's a $10 part. Are you sure you need a new oil cooler and not just a new seal?

AEM done, but CEL back again too.
Dropped off my GL 350 on April 7. Got the call on Friday, April 22 that it was ready. Apparently even though this was my second attempt at the AEM and I was told all the parts were now available when they called me to bring it in. They started the job then realized the EGR was not yet available.
I did ask for a quote on the oil seal job while they were doing the AEM: Labor 3hours $547.50, parts $393.58 = total $1024.48 includes tax. I said no to needing a new oil cooler, to which they said they wouldn’t guarantee the job if I didn’t get the oil cooler. I laughed and still refused the part. I thought I’d get away from the dealership with roughly a $550 charge but the bill was $688? The oil seals, which are usually about $3 each, were $10.74 from the dealership plus they replaced all 10 screws at $5.48 each for a total on parts of $76.28. Add shop supplies for $56.40 and taxes and you arrive at $688. Not great but pretty good for Mercedes service bill.
So far I noticed that the vehicle doesn’t have the same pick up on wide-open throttle that it used to have and at the first refill I went down from 20.1 mpg average to 18.9 for mixed driving. Picked the truck up on 4/25/22 and by 4/30/22 I had a CEL for DPF Differential pressure sensor. Made a appointment to take it back to them on May 10. I’m pretty certain that the DPF was one of the items that was meant to be replaced, so I didn’t expect to get this CEL again.
Need to look all these part numbers to see what exactly was changed.
