Looking for quiet tires GL550

That’s generally the recommendation, or continental as the OEM… Most tires get really noisy towards the end of their life, which is why I guess you’re wanting to switch.
In general; from categories traction, comfort/noise, value and longevity… Pick three. That’s all you’ll ever get.

I just bought 1 new Conti due to sidewalk issue and it’s noisy.
Correct me if I`m wrong, so you bought and installed just 1 tire and did not change the other 3??
If this is what you`ve done and especially if the other 3 are pretty worn out, I`d say stop driving that vehicle immediately, you will cause serious damage to your drivetrain.

If the tires are rotating consistently at different speeds, the computer, I believe the ECU, will trigger a low tire pressure warning, because it assumed different rotation speeds are due to the tire getting shorter as it goes flat.
If you had EORP and locked the rear and center diffs, you might strain them.

Eric, yes you got a point here, it wouldnt be an issue side to side on one axle but if the circumference delta were large enough between the front and the rear axle, you might wear out your transfer case and it might go popitty pop pop pop.
Until we hear otherwise, from OP my assumption is that he got a mishmash of tires that are unevenly worn, and in and of itself, that would cause a lot of noise. Wouldn’t at this point really matter what set of new tires OP buys.
because it’ll be inherently quieter. You’d be amazed how much noise tires at the end of their life are capable of making, and how much they can contribute to other perceived noise, vibration, and harshness complaints.

I put Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV on mine and am very impressed with smoothness, low road noise and in particular wet weather grip. Better than the previous sets of Continentals Super Contact 5s I had. Can't comment as to wear and distance yet, but I've had them for 12 months and wouldn't hesitate to do them again. Pricey but worth it.

If the transfer case did not have a differential in it, steering would be terrible: The rear wheels have to transcribe a smaller circle than the front.

the other 3 have maybe 10k on them. I’m going to try the Michelins

Transfer case, differential and tires diameter difference
I had calculated a while back that road tires of the same brand/model are less that 1% difference from new 10/32 tread to fully worn 2/32 thread. That shouldn't affect the diffs or transfer case.
All that said, I'd put 4 new tires on the car.
OP: If your tires are noisy, are your tires evenly worn? 10000 miles on tires means little on these tanks. I had brand new DSW06, the fronts were destroyed and the rears worn in half in less than 4000 miles, mostly highway driving because of bad alignment. BTW I loved those tires while they were in good shape. What size tires are you running?

I've used multiple sets of Pirelli Scorpions and Conti Extremecontact DWS6s and one set of Michelin Pilot Sports 3s (superseded by the 4) over the years. For noise, the Michelins were best, followed closely by the Contis with the Pirellis in distant third. I'd avoid them unless they're significantly cheaper than the alternatives since they're noisier and wear faster than the other two. I need a new set of tires, and will probably give the Lexanis a try since the GL has been retired to occasional/ kids in town use and Michelins/Contis are $400+ per corner.

Michelin Primacy.
I run the in 315/40/21 on my 550.
About the quietest and softest tire you can get. They are wearing very well. Approx 15k miles, over 50% useable tread remaining.
