I had a similar issue on my 2008 GL and I was researching videos online and was planning to do a liftgage pump fluid change. Then one of the videos showed a simple procedure for limiting how high the liftgate opens (like maybe your garage roof is low).
While that video did not fix mine, it did make me remember that I changed some convenience options in the menu you access through the steering wheel.

Thank you Dave, i will check that, my tailgate button on the trunk doesn’t work when I press it it, i was reading some stuff regarding the pinch sensor or the control module itself.

Oh, right... "4" ways!
OK, so everything works properly EXCEPT the handle on the OUTSIDE of the liftgate. That obviously leads to the handle being the issue... or the wiring from the handle to where it connects into the rest of the wiring harness. I haven't had to go down this road before, but I might start with taking the inner panel off to check connections. Maybe even ohm the handle to see if it's working.

Id double check the hydraulic fluid level in the rear. Mine would do the same, itd open, most of the way but wouldn't close. Just topped up the fluid in the little reservoir, and it now works perfect and its a lot quieter as well.
