Yes, it's the new taillights. Looks more like a bus or a van. The X164 looks more "Mercedes like".
Yeah I have to agree its the tail lights. The gls looks even more less mercedes like than the x166 gl. The GLS is too soft looking.Now that I am finished with my GL, I am hoping to sell and move on into a w216 cl65 07/08 or maserati gransport.
I disagree! The GLS doesn't look soft at all. It has an aggressive look with the Blackout and looks more updated.
Front looks good on gls63 but back looks softer less agressive than the x166 gl63 (all plastic mesh vents gone). Fake exhaust tip covers on the bumber with no real quad exhaust is bad on the gls63.
I think x166 looks far better than the x164, especially when equipped with the appearance package or the AMG package.
These Brabus wide star x164 GL or Carlson x164 GL look much better all you have to buy is the bodykit and wheels/exhaust and the x164 is transformed and looks much better than the x166.

Brabus is not tacky looks wise if you do it correctly and its a step up from amg in the performance department if you spend money their. I like the brabus wide star but would get rid of the 4 circular fog lights and have daytime running lights instead on the front bumper and have the amg wheels 5 spokes 295 40 r21. I would also keep the mb badges instead of the brabus ones.

how much does it stick out of the fender lines? hard to tell from the angle of your pics. if you don't mind posting a picture taken from back to front. I'm looking at a 2015 GL 63 amg wheel 21x10 to be fitted to, obviously, to a gl 450 as well.
Just picked a CPO 2013 GL450 for the family a couple weeks back. Its my first Benz since 2003 when I had a C230 Kompressor with a full Brabus Kit. So far I had the front windows tinted to match the rear and swapped out the stock 20" wheels for a freshly powder coated set of Gloss Black OEM AMG 21's. So far we are loving the ride!

It does not stick out at all. It is flush. I have since had Mercedes add the bumpers and flares, so no pictures showing the detail you are looking for.
New to the forum and MB. Historical VW and Audi owner and my first automatic in 16 years! But I am impressed by my 450. Drove around a few miles and now looking to upgrade the wheels to AMGs but the GL63 kit may be too expensive for me. So maybe the wheels and tint and interior light swap.
