I agree with point 1. Point 2 I'll disagree with if you're using all OEM parts. If it's all OEM it looks just like it rolled off the factory floor with it. But in either case, if the shade will come in 2014, it may be worth waiting for because it sounds like you may need a whole new headliner which would be expensive and a time consuming job.Originally Posted by blittle
Generally speaking, the retrofits are immensely expensive, and, the quality of the work can be questionable....... not something I would consider.

With regard to the retrofit quality..... I meant the quality of the "installation work" not the product itself. Perhaps you have the ability to to it yourself.....otherwise thats where my concern about quality comes in.
Ah yes, noted. You've got to find a tech that you can trust and knows will do the right job. Luckily I found that tech to do my rear shade and vented seat retrofits so that's why that part of the equation no longer enters my mind.
I do have one complaint about my 13 GL550. The door lock pins that go up and down when the door is locked and unlocked. When locked they should go down flush with door panel. When reaching out to say ATM or drive through window they stabbed you right in your arm pit..This is my first Mercedes so are all of them like this????

Some model lines have more attractive door pins that sit flush when the door is locked. I always thought the ones on your GL (and many other MBs INCLUDING the SLS AMG) that stick up look really cheap. I replaced the ones on my R-Class with OEM AMG aluminum pins that are shorter and sit flush when locked. If you click on my build thread, you'll find pictures of said door pins somewhere in there.Originally Posted by Crazybob

If it is indeed true that the 14 model year will have it- then it will be retrofitable. The ease of the retrofit, on the other hand, is a whole other can of worms.

I think the Pano Roof will be an option even on the GL63. So you could avoid the problem by staying with the standard sunroof - which is fine. I just think the pano, with sun shades, would be great for the kids sitting in the 2nd and 3rd rows. My kids like the glass roof in the second row of our Enclave a lot. Not sure I want to do without that but need to figure that one out.
I have not seen anything about an MB fix for that in 2014 on the forums. Where did you hear that . . .

Post 18 of this thread some guy mentioned it. To be honest, may not be that big of a deal if there's no shade on the rear portion of the sunroof. The glass is already tinted.Originally Posted by South Ocean1

But in actuality, I'll have to see this actual sunroof in person to assess its real world feasibility.

We have/had panoramic roofs on all our SUVs and you know what, we've never used them. The kids are too busy playing games and watching movies back thereOriginally Posted by South Ocean1

Well pano roof is standard on the GL63 so it doesn't look like you have to worry about it.
