Service Plan Pricing?

Service Plan Pricing?

Simple question. Is this negotiable? Is there an "invoice" price?

Additionally, if it is not negotiable. Is it a big source of profit for the dealer? and if so, can leverage the purchase of this to get concessions on the price of the vehicle?

Thanks in advice for your insights and strategies!

1st - understand that Prepaid Maintenance is not aa sales product, it's a product handled under Finance.

Dealer margin is like 15%, huge profit no,

Actually, so you know, Prepaid Maintenance is non-refundable, and if you will be low mileage vehicle you might reconsider your thinking since it needs to be used within time/milage constraints as outlined in the agreement, and frankly purchasing one 3yr plan at time pf purchase, and then after that expires if you still plan to keep the car purchase a 2nd contract for 2/3 yrs will be more cost effective for you than 5/6 yrs at point of sale.

Do you guys know - is this plan transferable ? I've got 3 years/30K miles plan for my car and in process of selling it right now. Can it be transferred to a new owner ? Is it attached to an owner or a vehicle ?

I don't believe it is transferable.

Can any of the diesel owners confirm if the interval for the fuel filter is still 20k? I read it may be changing to 40k. If it changes 20-40k may make the pre-paid plan a bit over priced. Thanks!

Logically speaking it should. When you buy a service plan - it attached to the car, not to a owner. Does anybody know it for sure ?

1) For current diesel prepaid maintenance schedule I would suggest you read the pdf attachment I posted, scroll down to the lower half of the page - or is that too much work for you ?

2) Again - some one could have done a simple google (g-o-o-g-g-l-e-) and found that yes, the plan is transferable to a private party buyer - however, you will need to go into your dealer and file that paperwork, and there will be a transfer fee of $35-$100 depending on the type/balance of plan you are transferring.

Fabbrisd1, sorry for inconveniencing you with the question.

1) I did read the PDF and did scroll down and saw the 20k. However as mentioned I have been reading elsewhere it may increase from 20-40k so wasn't sure if the 2013 requirement had changed. I see on MBUSA it only shows the S-class diesel needing it at 20k for 2013? Perhaps the manual on the site is wrong or I am reading it wrong? http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...ce_Booklet.pdf reading page 16.

2) I was going based off what the dealer told me which isn't a private transfer so I was incorrect, again I apologize for wasting your time.

You had a good point..

You had a very good question - but the answer at the moment is unsettling - meaning although the 2013 BT scheudle has changed in two respects - fuel filter and tranny service - unfortunately the prepaid maintenance plans have not changed from the contract side.

I believe dealer service dept's can "good will" themselves around it" - meaning "comp/NC the prepaid service at the later interval if settled at original time of service.

Unfortunate that "yes" the prepaid service plan has not been adjusted for the changes in the 2013 maintenance schedules yet - which in large part is unforgivable...

Yeah hopefully they will update soon to make it consistent and potentially update the pricing if warranted.

Also noted that the 2013 BTC now just shows a DEF fill up at 20k vs. 2012 which states evacuation and fill at 20k. Thinking back in 2010 the SA tried to convince me not evacuate just fill at 20k. I guess he had good foresight. I would also think this has some impact on cost?

I missed the service interval on the transmission. Great thing for the consumer as it's not cheap.

Off topic but the changes in 2013 are not retroactive correct? Meaning I have a 642 engine from 2012 and in 2012 states fuel filters and 20k and evacuate DEF at 20k etc. I assume I still need to do these at those intervals for warranty purposes, although in 2013 the 642 has extended the intervals and done away with the evacuation and flush of the DEF tank?

Has Mercedes stopped publishing the suggested pricing for star prepaid maintenance on their website?? Many of these older posts suggest prices are available online from mb to compare with what the dealer is offering and some have gotten refunds of the difference, but I can't seem to find it. Am I just not looking in the correct place or did they take the pricing offline??
