Electronic parking brake...

You guys that have your vehicles......how do you like the "electronic parking brake?" I have not had nor heard of a vehicle with that option before..... must seem unusual not to have a pedal to step on or a lever to pull!

It works. Push the button and it engages. Drive off and it disengages. Or, just pull the button and it disengages. Much better than a big, silly lever. If you have your foot on the brake when it engages, you feel the brake pedal getting a magical push.

A gaggle of MB's
Outlook is the same as a original parking brake release "pull" except you push in to activate the Parking Brake and pull to release. Download pdf Owners Manual from mbusa.com, manual page 179. Handy thing the pdf Owners Manual and pdf COMAND manual. See the Videos too !

Does the GL63 have the same manual as the GL manual on mbusa?

A couple of fast cars.
I actually rather like it, feels like it engages all the brakes. My driveway is on a somewhat steep incline and the car doesn't budge an inch with the P Brake engaged.

The Parking Brake is an Insurance Policy

I park on a steep location (10% grade) in my driveway whenever there is a snow storm, just like now. Need to get the GL out of the way for the wonderful task of snow removal. Well, I put on the brake, then put the vehicle in park. I am actually parked going up hill. My thought is this is easier on the transmission and might prevent problems in the future. Even if it does not do that, it is probably safer to do it. Also, when driving off, you really don't need to release it as it does so automatically, very smoothly. It is nice to know that you can't do like the old days and burn up your rear brake pads by forgetting to release it.

The S class has had a similar type of electric parking brake since they started the 221 body style. Works much better than the manual ones IMO. I use my parking brake at all times even if I'm not on an incline, to reduce holding the vehicle's weight on the transmission. As much as I use it, it has not failed on me once.

Sounds great! Looking forward to it...... Did I understand correctly, you cannot inadvertently leave it on? ( something I'm sure we have all done at one time or another )

You cannot leave it on by accident

Nope, it releases when you press on the accelerator.

Simple feature but been looking forward to it also since I saw it on the test drive. I remember Jaguar having this years back and was impressed, though not really that necessary...

I have to admit I'm not a frequent user of the parking brake. I always kind of figured with automatic transmissions its more for emergency situations or steep parking spots. I guess if it disengages when moving the 'emergency' part isn't really a feature.

I did try the brake since I saw this thread, works well. I don't miss the days of trying to push the little pedal down.

I Love the feature in my E350. Can't wait for both of our vehicles to have it.

2013 Mercedes Benz GL 450
I want to change the rear brake pads on my 2013 GL 450 Mercedes. I am not sure how to retract the electronic brake to install the new pads, Any suggestions?
