x166 rear seat entertainment

with my gl order, i ordered the rear seat entertainment as well..

just wondering, for those of you out there who got it too, does the screen tilt? i know it does in the older 550s & 450s but i was told today that in the new ones it doesnt.. is this really true?

i mean what about the kid in the back seat who cant yet see all the way up? seems silly for screen to not tilt..

get your self an ipad and mount for 1/3 the price ( most will tilt and rotate) with much better quality and it can do more than just show video to keep the kids entertained. you can also pair it via Bluetooth Audio Streaming

P.S in the future when you go over bumps the dvd wont skip !

as long as the order is not frozen you can change any of your options around, I have till end of January and I placed my order back in October. Hope that helps, good luck!

my issue with the iPad is that every time i park the car, i'd have to remove the ipads and either hide them in the storage in the cargo area or carry them with me. i prefer the rear seat entertainment units.

Always can go aftermarket also. Alot of nice options if you get if you talk to a installer. Larger screens with more inputs and controls better resolutions ect.

same issue i have with the ipad--
after market are nice too, but a cpl thoughts; -1- will it play independently and simultaneously thru car system or only independently? also does it affect warranty?

i stuck with factory system for now; though will be interested in an upgrade when available

A gaggle of MB's
iPads have such broader available content, and children now welcome ear-buds/headphoness - on top of that iPad investment becomes realtively affordable as compared to to fixed rear DVD system - iPad use has become the Big Thing !

That said - I have had customers with iPad children who for their new GL's actually order the rear seat entertainment system to use as potential "punishment".

If their children act up - parent yank their iPads and tell them they can only watch DVD's...

So what was the bomb 4-5 yrs ago now becomes the punishment/fallback.

Is Modern Life amazing !

I'm just not a fan of the aftermarket solutions as it just doesn't look OEM. Also if your car is equipped with Designo/ Nappa leather, there's no way the upholstery matches 100% with factory (if it's a headrest replacement).

The annoying thing about iPads is that generally, you'll get a new one of those before you get a new car and who knows what technical limitations you'll run into with those as you upgrade (either different shape, plug, etc.) Although, I wish MB would up its game and have a Blu-Ray entertainment center instead of DVD, Toyota just started doing that this year.

MB is far behind in entertainment technology, in safety they are at the front or near the front but entertainment they are way behind Audi, Porsche etc etc. the system MB uses for the screens is super bulky and as far as I know far from HD or Retina quality

Can you plug an IPad into the Command/Entertainment System so that your movies on the iPad can play though the factory rear video screens in the headrests? Like most, I am just not buying DVDs anymore but I don't like the idea of not having to hide rear mounted iPads whenever I leave the car.

I know xxGenericSnxx mentioned he could plug the iPad right into the rear headrest screen but I am hoping I can plug it into the dash and have it play to the back.

Thanks

thats a good quest- i'm not sure if it plugs in; what i want to see (and havent had a chance yet) is if video can play off the bluetooth, exactly how the audio plays off the bluetooth (from our phone); i mean when i watch a video on my phone, the audio plays through the car; just thinking why the video wont play as well-- will have to check and get back to you..

Thanks - I am curious about how that would work to play videos off an IPad or iPhone - if it is even possible.

so the video picks up bluetooth media- but turns it back to the audio for playback-
i'm sure that video can be played via phone/bluetooth but still not sure how...
