Mercedes GL current wait times
Hi, we are looking into ordering a GL but have been told delivery will be September! What are the wait times in your side of the world as my location is England UK so we will have slightly longer wait times. Has there been a delay of some sort? My dealer has said there is a shortage of AMG body kits also mention this is for the gl350 bluetec Thanks

I think there are a lot of factors on wait time. First, there is the technique the dealer wants to use. Many will under-commit and over-deliver. In my case they were telling me to expect the end of November for mine, and I got it at the end of November. So there might be some buffer there.
Then there is model specific delays, the GL450 seems to be the fastest to get, GL63s are the slowest, seems like GL350s are the second slowest. There are also delays on specific options that can cause further delays.
Lastly, there is the factor that yours has to take a boat over to the UK. I have no idea what complications that can bring to the delivery time, but I would guess there's probably a month or so variance.

If September delivery in UK - the most important thing to confirm is that it will be a model year 2014, and if/not, then then when model year 2014's start delivery in your market.
Here for US market production thru end-June is US model year 2013 - and production from 2nd week July isUS model year 2014

I'm in Sweden, and I'm going to order a GL 350. My dealer says that the swedish allocation (which probably wasn't very large) is sold out and that the next production slot is in August! He said that sometimes MB's own dealers book slots ahead of sales, and that he was going to ask around if there was an earlier slot still available. That was yesterday, and I haven't heard anything today which is probably bad news. He's reserved the August slot for me, anyway...
And then there's a 2 month wait for delivery ... Oh, the humanity!

yup- gl63= loooong wait
rest 8-12 weeks for US; more for BT and 550
i know the waiting is a long process but hopefully it equates to quality build and helps not flood the market- which helps holds resale; though there is always a depreciation after getting a car, more with a new one- i feel that unlike the rest of the world, its more in the US, which is why controlled allocations, builds and sales of cars like this helps customers in the US; weird though in the middleeast and asia the more they have of a specific model, for example like the land cruiser which is like everyother car in the mideast the value holds, but in the US i feel the more numbers available the bigger the depreciation- my 2cents --
but yea, to sum it up- its a wait but i feel its directly proportional to quality, worksmanship and resale; not that all of us look primarily at resale but its something everyone thinks about-
congrats to all who have ordered, got their car or waiting for it- enjoy it safely-

Finally managed to order my GL350 after being told the same story about unavailable build slots until september!
Managed to get an MB dealer who got me an april build slot last week and ETA is early July so can't wait but I guess good things come to those who are patient
Calling loads of MB dealers here in the UK over the past few weeks and being told none available until later in the year, I guess I was fortunate to get the build slot as early as this
GL350 AMG, Tenorite Grey

I ordered GL350 on November 28, 2012 and it was at the dealership on January 5th. I changed my mind and leased GL450 and the dealer sold my car in next 2 hours.

My GL350 is currently in production. It showed a "Build Date" of 2/3. As of yesterday it was still shown as in production.
Can anyone break down how long it takes to complete the build once the build starts? Also, once build is completed roughly how long it takes to transport to the Southern California area?
Thanks

Well, 2/3 is a start - next sign is assignment of the VIN# in production - so ask your dealer for the VIN#.
Production is released to VPC, then VPC when completed with che3cks and adding SPC items, then goes "Release to Carrier" - from release to carrier to arrival California dealer like 2 1/2 to 3 weeks.
Interestingly, your dealer should have explained this to you - oh, I forgot, it's Cali and they feel it will get here when it gets here, if you don't want it we will sell to someone else..

Great question, that's what I was asking also.... Think the issue was on the options. It's a 550 with most all of the options- active curve, surround view, etc.. With the early delays on the options it may have been hung up, and have a feeling the dealer wasn't aggressive of pushing it and/or they may have low allocation.

Thanks all. Given the 2/3 build date, I am expecting it to arrive before the end of the month. I think the interesting part will be how soon before the end of the month. We'll see - I will post the data with build date, VIN Date, etc. etc., Delivery Date once this whole thing is over. Pretty annoying they do not have a way for you to track it yourself like BMW....oh well. It will be a fantastic vehicle!
