Here is the response I have received from MB Canada today by email:


Thank you for taking the time to write us, we appreciate your interest in Mercedes-Benz products.

Unfortunately, there is no iPad docking station available for the 2013 GL, as it does not have the pre-wiring required for a docking station.
We regret not being able to give you a more favourable response.

How come it's available in the US? Here a link to a listing on eBay:

Not sure if this link will come across, but here's the product on MBUSA's site when building a 2013 GL. Go down the page to 'accessories', then click 'show more' and you'll see the powered ipad holders.

MB Canada just did not offer that option to their GLs in our market. This is similar to the pre MY2010 C63s in the states not having the folding mirrors. There is actually a division in MB Canada / USA and each division picks out the options they believe their market will like and packages it accordingly. For example, alot of our cars have 4matic as an option or even standard whereas 4matic isnt even offered for many models in the US.

Decided to get my money back for what they charged for the option and explore some different options. Funny thing: as I was at the dealership, I went into the shop and talked to a tech. He showed me a new GL that they were installing the MB rear seat entertainment on (the aftermarket ones they offer). As apparently non of the CDN GL's are prewired, the techs still were able to hook it up properly, with more work involved. They taped into the 12V plug in the center console. That however required removal of it. Took them over 7 hours of labour to install the RSE on that particular GL.

Short answer: No

I find this a really intriguing question but you should have started a new thread for this. My first thought was to add any water and pee in it. I googled around a short bit and did not find any conclusive answer but it doesn't sound good to use an alternative fluid. Most think the sensors will detect the incorrect chemistry, not sure how, perhaps conductivity or some down stream NOx sensor, and not allow a start or perhaps not the next start. At the worst I guess you gotta get to the next truck stop or auto store to pick up some DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid).
