Any black leather w satin ash combos out there?

Looking for pics of black interior with satin ash trim, if it exists!

And a general question - AFAIK satin is special order (SPC) but no charge? Is that right?

I have the black and satin ash.....looks very rich, very "manly" if I may use that description.... not a combination that my wife would have chosen!

Here is a link to a new ML63 for sale with black leather interior and brown satin ash trim. While not a GL, this should at least give you a sense of how it goes together. Looks good - but I would go with Burl Walnut with black interior for a little more color pop. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I think it looks nice. Definitely not as much pop as the burl but I've grown tired of burl walnut and thought a matte finish would be cool for a change.

Here's the dash of GL550 with a matte-finish brown ash that I test drove. The steering wheel had a much smoother satin finish that would have really worked better on the dash pieces (IMO).

I prefer the burl walnut although a satin finish option would be really beautiful in walnut. Glossy finishes can be overly reflective in bright sunlight.

For me the satin finish was a gamble......particularly with the black leather..... a gamble because no picture available really shows the true visual effect of the "open pore" matte finish. But when I got it and saw the interior i knew I had made the right decision........... It jumps right at you and says "wood"! ....a true luxury look! My only concern is for durability...... dogs, young children, etc. The combination of the black leather and the satin ash....makes one think of the rich european interiors ( which is where the "open pore" wood trim originated ) So for me..... its a winner! I had the burled walnut high gloss on my previous two GL's.

blittle and sraza: I really liked the feel of the satin steering wheel. Nice and smooth. Don't you think that finish would looked good on the dash pieces also? They sort of have an unfinished look. The Lexus LS460 is available in a satin finish that looks and feels a lot like your steering wheels. I think the burl walnut would look really good with that satin finish and it would cut down on the glare on a sunny day. MB, are you listening?

honestly i like the feel of the wood on the dash and door panels. My steering wheel is smooth but not shiny.. I actually prefer the unfinished yet still finished look. looks different and natural. Burl walnut in a satin finish would look nice too.. Initially I had ordered the car with burl walnut and a request for matte finish polish instead of high gloss (as these are all hand polished) My dealer took the order with that request, obviously with no confirmation or guarantee that it'l be done that way- then i found out about satin ash wood and preferred it over burl walnut.. i'm def more satisfied with the satin wood- we have burl walnut in the other GL and have had it previously as well and a change was in order!

honestly i dont think that as of now they can do burl walnut in sati, but its not hard to change it once you get it- anyone who is a professional with wood finishing should easily be able to convert it to a matte finish- the question is how many of us will spend this much on a car and then take a risk with a refinish and have no idea how it would look!

the leather looks quite dark though i'm told its not that dark in reality.
but gives an idea of how it would look

I was pleased to hear the positive comments from those of you who ordered a GL with the brown satin wood trim. Like several of you said, I have the burl walnut trim now and like the idea of something different. I am going with that on my MY2014 GL but with the Auburn Brown interior. I was thinking that the black interior could still benefit from the color pop of the burl walnut but in looking more at the photos I think the satin wood would work well with the black as well. Definitely a different look. Nice to have choices.

Let us know what you decide to go with.

well we ended up with the Anthracite Poplar wood trim. very nice actually and makes for a very sporty interior. our 550 also has the black headliner so the cabin is very blacked out.

i never saw the satin ash in person but just wanted something different this time instead of MB's standard burl walnut. the anthracite poplar is very exotic when the light shines on it:
