GL 550 AMG Wheel Scuffed

I just returned from the movies but unfortunately I scuffed my right rear wheel making a sharp turn in a parking garage. I have a 550 with the AMG wheels (very expensive). I believe and hope it can be repaired and of course will speak with the MB service department tomorrow. If you've experienced a successful wheel scuff repair, please post your thoughts and suggestions.

I have not.....but that being said, I do know that each dealer has access to someone who specializes in "wheel repairs"..... they can repair most anything, however it will not be inexpensive. I did investigate the whole thing when I had a new Toyota and did the same to one of the alloy wheels.......after hearing what it was going to cost, I decided to live with it.

I would have guessed the OEM price would have been at least a $1,000. Thanks for the link.

I spoke to the service department today. They use a local wheel repair guy that charges $129 per wheel. The work would be done at MB. Below is a picture of the damage, notice the wheel is not polished but milled. I wonder how or if a local guy can repair this type of wheel?

that's not too bad. i've returned leased cars with worse which means it is a quick fix for them.

i know it's an eyesore though on your beautiful new car, so $129 is not a bad price to fix it.

Yes....they can repair it. The guys at MB will be able to tell you if, after the repair, you will be able to notice anything... Id have them look at it. From what I have heard, in most cases you will not see a thing.....in some, YOU may know the damage was there, but no one else will be able to tell unless they are down on their hands and knees studying your wheels!

That's a piece of cake.

My wife scratched one of the wheels on my 911 once way worse than that. The wheel repair guys really can do magic.

You'd be much better off going to the wheel repair shop directly. Same work for much better price.

Not so simple after all. I sent a photo of the damage to the dealership and they spoke with the repair guy and he felt it could not be repaired to my satisfaction because of the milling. If it were a polished finish, then yes, he could repair it.

I called my insurance company and they will cover the cost of a new wheel after a deductible so I ordered a new wheel. It will be swapped out on Thursday. A new wheel is $950 plus tax. The dealership charges 28.95 to mount the tire on the new rim and balance it. I wonder if I could sell the old wheel to a company that reconditions wheels?

Thats why I like MB of Lanc. ...... they are "straight up" all of the time, no BS. If it were me, I would be doing the same...... particularly on a brand new car. I also hate it when I do it to myself! By the way....MB of Lanc now has a new "road force" balancing system ..... the best!

I contacted a company in Michigan to inquire if they were interested buying my original wheel. They sell a refurbished version of this exact wheel $749. They offered $100 so I think I'll list it on eBay first. I hope it's worth at least $250 (plus shipping) but time will tell.
