Extended warranty - did you buy it?
I had a month to decide from my dealer if I wanted to get the extended warranty. The cost is basically $1000 per year for 3 years with no deductible.
Did you guys opt to get the extended warranty and if so did you pay $3000 to extend by 3 years?

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic......Im sure we could all chime in , but if you do a search on the topic you will most likely find all the different opinions........for the record, however, it depends on HOW LONG you DEFINITELY will keep the car, and, HOW MANY miles you will drive it....there is a sweet spot where the two meet and the extended coverage MAY be worth it.....for me, I will keep it 5yrs. and drive 20K/yr.....the extended 5yr/100k works for me . Previous cars and driving habits I did NOT buy it....... Its always a dice roll......but for as long as I own my GL I will pay for maint. only. ( also they WILL negotiate if you ask )

I have the extended warrant on my E which I put a ton of miles on and hopefully will keep 7years. GL not so sure how long we will keep and it will be relatively low miles. I didn't buy it though because although refundable, I had a huge battle and arguments with the dealer when trying to get it refunded for the ML I traded in on the GL so figured I'd wait. Certain states will sell you the warranty later without the extra premium anyway, but the price may higher by then as well.

Thanks for chiming in guys and I apologize for not seeing the other threads. I did try to search but I didn't find any related discussions in the GL X166 forum and wanted more related owner inputs.

Let's back the truck up - for as new GL the MSRP for Extended Limited Warranty coverage from MB - 9 options based on total yrs/mileage for total 5/75 thru total 7/125 - MSRP range is $2069 thru $5249 if done within 30 days of purchase.
If you have been offered a $1000 cost MB ELW - then grab it - but you need to understand clearly what you are buying is what you are describing here.
Keep the beat !

I'm picking up my 14 GL 350 (palladium silver/black) this weekend. On the older GL forum there were threads about discounts on mb extended warranties, but it seems like the people who sold these warranties no longer work for MB. Did anyone get a good deal on a new mb extended limited warranty? What would be a good discount off msrp (?10-15%) thnx.
Supposedly Dan Boone is selling these at good discount.
My GL won't be coming in for awhile, so not sure what Dan is selling them at, but if you get any more info on pricing for new MY14 GL350, please let me know the prices you are getting.

MB extended warranty
We picked up our 2014 GL 350 on 8/24. Only drive 10-12K a year. We bought the extension to 7year/75,000 miles from Mercedes for $2599, finance guy said retail was about $3500. He guaranteed its 100% refundable until 4 years/50K then prorated if traded early.
I guess it's piece of mind if decide to keep the truck for 5 years or longer...I know little part failures can cost a lot later out of warranty.

alot of this i think is also dealer dependant-- one of my recent Mercedes- i got ELW the last day of the 48mo factory warranty for a good deal- it was only for a cpl more years- i think it was 7/75 and then i traded it in 6months later- got a great trade in deal (3K above KBB) and my remaining ELW was refunded with no issues at all.. and for the most recent one we got, the 13' GL550, i did not extend it cuz my dealer will do it any time - no issues- good price-- and thats why i didnt yet..

If you are planning to keep the car long enough it's a must! Shop around, I got a 7/75.000 for around $2200 as far as I remember. Has been a few months but it was much cheaper than what my dealer was asking for. They claimed that in Florida they are not allowed to negotiate on those warranties.
I bought it from a dealer in California which had the additional benefit of no additional sales tax I had to pay.

I E-mailed Dan about a week ago. No response. I called him yesterday. No response. Because he seems to give great deals...when you can get in touch with him...I'll keep trying. But, it's a really poor way to do business.
You'd think he'd be prompt with his responses because selling ELWs has to be one of the easiest ways to make money. A phone call, some paperwork and it's several hundred (or a thousand or more?) dollars profit. No muss, no fuss. I can't imagine why people need to about beg the guy just to call them back.

I called Dan again a few minutes ago and bought a 7/100 Extended Warranty for $2880, which is $1509 off MSRP (I think) and a much better deal than the $500 off MSRP offered by my dealer.
I apparently got him on the phone because he just happened to be in and at his desk when I called. He was a very nice fellow and the transaction took less than 5 minutes. I really don't understand his unpleasant habit of not returning phone calls or E-mails.
Just of curiosity because my ELW is a done deal so it's no longer relevant, does anyone know the dealer cost of the 7/100 ELW on a 2014 350GL purchased within 30 days of taking delivery of the vehicle?

That IS a very good deal especially if it is the MB factory extended and not the 3rd party that some dealers offer but don't make expressly clear that it is NOT the factory warranty.

I'm also curious what the markup is for the mb extended warranty. I've called around and the best deal I've come up with for 7/100,000 is $3400, which is about 23% off msrp (msrp is $4389). I've talked to some mb finance people who tell me the markup is 20-25%. How is Dan Boone (who I still haven't heard back from) able to sell this for $2880 (35% off)?

I ended up calling Dan Boone 1 more time, he answered, and I got the 7/100,000 warranty for the same price as others. Took 5 minutes (not including my previous calls!)
