Did anyone get the Illuminated star option for their GL?

I thinks it's a neat little pop, but showed it to my wife, and her response was-"Pimp my ride?" It is a little over the top since its not like on a $63+k car you need more announcement that you have an MB. Needless to say, I don't have it

or maybe it's a setting you can select. it seems a little much to have it on at night while driving. but it still looks pretty neat

I read on the MBUSA website that you can control if you want it on when you drive or only when you lock and unlock the car. I bet you there is probably not a single dealer out there with this option on a GL that I could go and check it out at...

I have it. Didn't order, bought the car when original buyer backed out or the dealer cut him. I haven't found a way yet to get it to come on other than when unlocking. Looks great but Wish I had distronic instead.

My wife really wanted it and so we got it on the GL350 we picked up yesterday. But, I'm a little annoyed to find out that it only turns on when lock/unlocking the doors. Apparently there are laws against having it on while driving.
FWIW, the dealer said MB is petitioning to allow the star to be on while driving. I guess that would require a simple reprogramming?? But, I don't know enough about the electronics to know if that is feasible.
Thoughts?

The Distronic radar is mounted behind the Star so distronic and the illuminated Star are incompatible and cannot be ordered together. The illuminated star only functions while the vehicle is parked which makes it too limited a novelty for the price. If it operated as part of the running lights on the vehicle, especially at night, I think it would be pretty cool.

I suspect this option is disabled in the US but is available in Europe. If you read the description online, it clearly says you can keep it on while driving. I think it's one of those things that can be enabled with proper coding, all the needed software is there, just like inputting new destination into the Navigation while driving.

Same here. Really wanted that thing but distronic got me too. I guess good anyway like they said above. It only comes on when opening the friggin doors.

Yes you are able to have this light on while driving however it will ruin factory warranty. For now it is only stock for GL and CLA.. However I have an eclass and it too only stays in while parked. Does anyone know how I can rewire it to have it while driving?

Let me clarify something here - the Feds/DOT did approve the Star for "running light use" for the CLA - however DOT has yet to approve the Star for running light use on the SUV's. Fed thing not a MB thing.
If DOT approves Star for running light use on new 2015 SUV's.. then that running light feature will be backwards updateable by dealer programming to 14's that have the Star..

Didn't order it, but have it. Looks cool, but basically a novelty. I agree with on of the previous comments, I'm not sure you really need a lit up emblem to announce that you're $86k SUV is a MB, well err... maybe you do..... I took it to get waxed the other day and the shop owner overheard another guy asking about it and he said, "Oh, is that a Mercedes? I just thought it was a minivan or something." I also got a lot of, "I like your wife's station wagon" comments after I bought it.

Okay so we have it, after an update from dealership it now stays on when you drive it and have the lights on. Personally I'd rater have the distronic as I have that in the everyday driver. I just wish I could change the color of the light ie green and red for Christmas but it won't fly here in this state haha
