GL63 transmission clunking roughly when in comfort mode

Got the car. Put the 1000 miles on appropriately. Now when driving on the highway and coming to lights as it downshifts it feels as though I'm being rearended. Gears dropping too many or not being able to find the slot.

Anyone else? Any thoughts?

A gaggle of MB's
Take it to the dealer and have the 7G+ tranny reporogrammed - takes about 2hrs connect time.

Take it to the dealer and return it period.

You really think a car with 1000 miles should have ANY issues?

You have much more patience and understanding than I do if this stays with you.

Well it hasn't done it since and not for anyone else. So, yes, my thought was to take it back period but now it's gone. And it's such a nice car...

And yes, I have learned a lot of patience lately. Special-needs child teaches you that- eventually!

I have/had the same problem as I reported in a different thread (GL63 owners). I spoke with RENNtech and they said this is typical for the AMG transmissions (including other 63 models like the SL, S and ML) and should get much better after 1500 miles...and yes, they were correct. My clunk is virtually gone at around 1700miles and is now smooth as silk.

Agree. I have had no other problems and now have over 1700 miles. I only ever felt it that one time. And I must say, that Active Lane Assist has already "trained" me to stay in the lanes in all my other cars too that don't have it. The Active Collision Alert (or whatever it's called) is pretty cool too. Several times as I'm accelerating and the car in front of me is braking, it beeps right before I react. So maybe a little too early, but helpful nonetheless. Love the car!

I agree. My third 63 and this is true for all. It needs to "learn."

We all need to remember.......no matter the amount you pay, the reputation of the vehicle, the expectations built in, etc. There CAN be issues because they are are MACHINES.....even the most expensive machines ever built ( the US space shuttles ) occasionally had issues. This vehicle is the best in its class.....it can do amazing things, but with all the electronics interfacing with with each other....there wil be occassional "hard shifts" "tire pressure miscalculations" "low coolant check msgs." .... I have had all...... but they do not detract from the fact that if you want an SUV of this caliber......there are close contenders, but nothing quite equal! I say this after having owned 3 of these!

I don't disagree, but I think part of the greatness of a car of this caliber should be preclusion from such flaws. Incidentally this is my third GL as well. I attribute these issues not to the quality but rather the new model year.
