where do you put your phone?

I'm curious where you put your phone? I have an iPhone5 and use the converter cable with the system cord. I'm reluctant to stow it all in the console - partly because I keep forgetting it when I leave the car and also, tend to check messages when at stops.

There's a tray behind the cig stuff, but it gets too hot I think for safe keeping of the phone.

I find I put it in the ashes tray.
What better solutions are there?

I have to say that the Command system is growing on me. The graphics make it look very 'old', but it's actually pretty functional and the voice commands are truly effective.

I haven't found a good place for the phone. I like the little ledge at the bottom on the command screen, but it's just a little too narrow and I find my phone slipping of of it, plus it blocks a bit of the bottom of the screen. I have put it in the cupholder (mine doesn't have the heat/cool option) and that works find except for when you have a passenger and you both have drinks. I put it in the ashtray sometimes, but it kind of gets hard to grab from there.

I keep it in the square change spot in front of the armrest with a charge cord coming out of the armrest. I got a black cord so, it doesn't show very much.

My iPhone 5 goes in either the square bin to the right of the handrest or on the cover overlying the cup holders. I have a 14 model so the wood in this area on the 13s was replaced by a rubbery cover which adds some additional grip to the phone.

i put my iphone in the square bin too, or in the little rubberized tray behind the cig lighter.

That square hole (which is not a hole for those with the off road package) would be awesome if it was 1-2" deeper. I find myself bumping my phone out of their too much.

Someone mentioned reading messages at stops - dies the system also allow you to read them on the screen?

I believe he/she was looking at their actual phone to check messages.

Having said that, yes, there is a way to check text messages with Comand. However, it is a bit convoluted. i.e. if you are on full screen Navigation screen:

1- Press the knob to bring the menu
2- Push the knob up to highlight the menu on top
3- turn the knob to the right to choose the phone
4- Press down the knob to select
5- pull the knob down to go to the menu on the bottom
6- Turn the knob to the right to highlight the Messages
7- Press the knob down to select it
8- Choose the message you want to view
9- Press the knob down

Of course all above steps takes probably 10 seconds or less to do, but still.

Maybe program the favorite button to get you right there?

I am using that to bring up the surround camera view.

I am also not sure if the choice is there to add it to the favorite button. I am not in the car at the moment, so I cannot confirm.

Dunno, maybe it is a 2014 450 vs 350 thing. If I remember correctly, the couple of '14 450s I looked at also had the soft-touch cover over the cup holders.

You can skip 1-4 by just pressing "TEL" button next to Navi. That will get you to the telephone screen.

There are also a few more button presses to get it to read aloud your texts while the Car is in motion

I picked this one up and it works well. It does take up one of the cupholder slots in the console and puts the phone down low which may be an issue for the OP since it is being used for Nav.

It works with a slim case on the phone without issue, only the Apple supplied cord that comes with your iPhone fits snuggly into the hole, aftermarket and other purchased Apple cords may not. I have used it wil a 6s and 8+ without problems.

My phones go in the door bin OR on the passenger seat. I like keeping the cupholder door closed whenever possible (because of extreme OCD/AR

I have a small magnetic mount for my phone on the center stack plastic trim just to the left of the navi/radio shortcut buttons. When the phone is on it the only things of value that are obstructed are the seat temp buttons. I still get an unobstructed view of the comand screen and a very easy to view sight line to my phone. Haven't had any issues using it for navigation.
The mount i bought had that stupid sticker type adhesive that never works, so after it fell the first time i just peeled it off and epoxied the mount back on. Two years later it still works great.
