To all with the Appearance Pkg / 20" wheels - smooth ride?

Well, my 2014 has this package and the 20" wheels, and ever since I got it there has been vibration from the wheels at highway speeds 65+ mph.

My dealer tried a few times on the factory tires to rebalance them, and even replaced 1 tire that was too far out of balance. That helped some, but didn't fully solve the problem. So now they put on a new set of 4 tires (still same Pirelli Scorpion Verde) but the car still won't ride smooth.

The GL I test drove had the 19" standard wheels and it was smooth, so I will consider moving to those if absolutely necessary, but surely there are plenty of folks with the 20" wheels that get a smooth hwy ride? I'd like to hear from you what brand/model tires you have and whether you had any initial vibration problems and if so how they got solved. Thanks!

My new 14 GL350 runs smooth and steady, without vibrations, etc up to 80 mph on a recent long trip, with 20 inch Pirelli Scorpions.
No problems here....

You might have a brake issue, the 450 and 550 have been notorious in regards warped rotors and faulty pads.

Braking has been perfectly smooth so far. Car is still under 2k miles. Vibration problem is just when cruising on the hwy above 65 mph. Guess I'll keep working with the dealer. Was just curious if anyone has 20" tires other than the Pirellis in case that might make a difference.

If balancing and new tires are not working, then rotors or other drivetrain components could be the issue. When it comes to rotors- it night not be apparent under breaking. They could be out of round or poorly balanced, driveshafts can do it...

Mine rides super smooth. Used to think my MDX was smooth. Now when I drive the MDX, after driving the GL, I swear must be wrong and the car is going to vibrate to death.

20s on all our 450s and 21s on the 550s- i've had 18s on a 450 before- honestly , I didnt feel a difference- smooth throughout- only thing i'l say- if its REALLLLY cold the 21s are a little stiff till the tires warm up some - then its the same..

Brand new 2014 gl450 vibration over 65

Elric did this ever get resolved just bought mine 2 weeks ago and same problem the dealer changed out one tire and it helped next step I'm going to ask to have the other 3 replaced tomorrow. This is so annoying for such a new expensive car bought mine from mercedes of Arlington. Oh and just found out my embrace buttons do not work so gotta bring it back anyways. I also have the 20" wheels with Pirelli verde as well still getting a slight vibration. So annoyed by this

Still working on mine. Next appointment is after Thanksgiving. If you learn anything let me know. Changing tires so far hasn't solved it 100%.

Update after 3 visits to the dealer finally they exchanged the wheels and tires from another one in the showroom.. problem solved and drives like it should... very smooth.... had to be a wheel(s) defect..

So would you say the vibration is 100% gone? My dealer now replaced all tires a 2nd time, this time they put on a different brand - Michelin Latitude Sport. After driving the car a couple days I'd say the vibration is 90 to 95% gone, but there is still a very slight amount at certain speeds. Trying to decide whether I should live with it or push for a wheel swap.

mines 100% gone. I originally wanted the Michelin latitude sports until I found out they were summer only tires, so it's actually quite dangerous to drive them in snowy or near freezing temperatures.. the only tires that were non run flats and all season where th Pirelli Scorpion's. If you live in California or the south your good but if your not 100% happy I would definitely mention that you want the wheels swapped out from another appearance package GL450... not sure what it was but it couldn't have been just the tires.. also I forgot to mention, if you drive on non-all season's when it's cold out.. the tires are harder so it could feel more bumpier.. I would definitely go back to all seasons especially on a car like this.. they'll do it if you make enough ruckus about it..

My 2014 GL550 with 21" all-season Conti CrossContacts rides very smooth at all speeds. No work needed on it (yet, knock on wood).

Seems like there were a lot of owners with wheel vibrations on the 20", besides the brake rotors.

I didn't feel the vibrations on my first set of Scorpions but now having purchased a new set, 31K miles, I definitely felt the vibration. I balanced all 4 twice before the mechanic stated the road force lbs were too high. I got a replacement set but still, although a lot less, vibrations. I thought I got a bad batch of tires but now I don't know what else to do.

What the MB saying " the best of nothing", well this ain't the best!

If you can, put Continental summer tires on. Way better ride. I went through the same thing with my 450 and the Contis solved it. The dealership couldn't get the Scorpions balanced.
