Backup camera 2014 GL450
There a trick to insure the backup camera turns on when reverse gear is engaged? ... Ummm, without 3 clicks of the COMAND controller.
Frustrating.
Yes, I did enable the activate when put in reverse option.

I have noticed that if I don't wait for the Nav system to load first, or if its busy connecting my cell and I immediately put into reverse after start…..the camera does not come on.

On my unit, when I put the car in reverse, the camera turns on automatically and goes off when I am traveling forward about 10-15 mph. I do not turn on any system to actuate it.

So are you saying it doesn't ever come on without pushing buttons? I can understand waiting for COMAND to load, but it doesn't take too long for it to load.

Mine just switches on automatically when engaging reverse. Can't recall whether it is a setting the dealer enabled for me during their pre delivery inspection or whether it just does....I've programmed one of the short cut buttons to enable the 360 view when I'm driving at the push of a button to park within the lines when I don't have to reverse first...

After starting the vehicle, engaging reverse it never comes on without manually turning it on via COMAND.
Now, after doing that, as long as the vehicle wasn't turned off, it auto engages when I put I. Reverse.
If I shut engine down. Restart. Gotta start over.
Strange.

I gotta look for that, because the 360 camera is nice indeed.
But searching for it on COMAND is less than convenient.

I set up my 360° camera as my favorite. I haven't had any problems with it, though we just took delivery thus afternoon, but I couldn't think of anything else to set as fav.

What I find an irritant about the command system is how it is not in sync with the steering wheel controls. I'm getting used to it a little, but the separation of functions on the steering wheel with its own display and the command annoys me at times...Especially when changing songs...

Yes I was the same. Couldn't really think of anything else.

The menu system has an option to allocate a single function to the "asterisk" button in the center console. I use it for the surround cameras.
Still, the absurd and utterly useless legal disclaimer for the COMAND is something all the auto makers need to get over. I'm in more danger waiting for the COMAND to do simple functions (eg. What's the least clicks and whirls to turn off the display? ... on a Prius, it's one.) Next, we'll have to wait 20 seconds while our phones tell us that their radios cause brain cancer and we should use wired headsets ... click ok ... not bluetooth headsets ... click ok ... texting and walking is dangerous ... click ok ... cell phones and driving don't mix ... click ok ... watching videos might cause eyestrain or nearsightedness ... click ok ... kids might be duped into in-game purchases while borrowing your phone ... click ok ...
